ID search in Sentinel software?

What exactly is the "ID search" in Sentinel software for?
I am using it to program my Homepatrol 2.
I noticed that under STARCOM 21 statewide Illinois, that ID search is set to OFF.
It's also turned OFF for Peoria County Illinois ETSB(P25).
Is this a setting that I need to turn on in order to hear the systems?

It is used to hear all TGs in the system that haven't been added yet to the database.

ID Search On means your scanner will "hear" all talkgroups that you have not Avoided. It is sort of like a "Search for new talkgroup IDs".

ID Search Off means your scanner is limited to "hearing" just those talkgroups that have been programmed into the scanner (either as part of the full database, or Favorites List) and that you have not Avoided. "Back in the day" with older model scanners, it used to be called "ID Scan".
