To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Ignition sense on TK-7360 / 8360

Perhaps this is a dumb question, but: On the TK-8360 there is no ignition sense cable, so how does the radio accertain power status? There is a setting for this in the software but there is no cable. (I have a mobile that will not turn on - just wondering if there is a setting for ignition sense that is set to "on" without a way to apply power. There does not appear to any setting within the rear pins that I can find.)

I believe it's also avail on pin 2 of the d-sub, but I don't have 8360 ifo me, and I only spent 2 minutes looking at the installation manual online.

This radio is a little screwy when it comes to ignition sense. If you use it the optional power wire goes into pin 2 of the DB15 connector on the back of the radio. If there is a KCT-60 option cable hanging off the DB15 then it is still pin 2 for ignition sense on the Molex connector.

I would just uncheck ignition sense all together in programming. Connect your main power lead to switched power and check Power Switch Status Memory in Optional Features and your good to go when you turn the vehicle on. I would only use an ignition sense line if I needed to use Timed Power Off or control Horn Alert.

There is a chip jumper inside the radio that needs to be removed to enable ignition sense. I don't know if it needs to be replaced to get the radio to power up without the sense lead or if programming will just take care of it.

Yeah, the lower tier radios are like that. The NX-1700/1800 and NX-3xxx mobiles also work that way. When someone needs ignition sens, we just put in a 20-30 amp horn relay and wire that to ignition, while running the contacts to the battery to power the radio.

Thanks. Whcih hole on the DB9 (or whatever) is the correct one to stick a live wire into to wake the radio up? (Pin 2 = which hole?)
