I've listened to various scanners over the years, and have programed a few of them. But I'm not very savvy on what I should be looking for. My ultimate goal is to be able to listen to Flagstaff PD. Any insight or direction withhold be greatly appreciated.

scanner for Flagstaff

Flagstaff Regional Public Safety Cooperative System, p25 type 1, then just a regular scanner for Coconino County Arizona.
Uniden 396xt, 996xt, rs-106, these have been replaced by newer models but there are some still available.

If your looking at something latest for phase1 and 2 systems and be rrady for event youll need phase 2 capable and don't mind the extra buck you can go with the uniden 536hp or 436hp which I like over the whistler models 1095 equivalents.

Thank you for info. I'm a Tow truck operator and bounce from truck to truck. So I believe I would favor a handheld over a base. These different radios would not be able to scan my Highway Patrol and County frequency? DPS is 460.0250 and the County is in the 155 range I believe?

Just about any scanner will work with DPS since they're still using analog frequencies. If Coconino County is in the 155 range then any scanner can pick those up as well. The scanner models mentioned will pick them up. But to get Flagstaff PD and FD you will need a digital scanner.

I was able to get all the codes and freq's installed manually. Just not able to hear any NAU talk. It's been a long while since I've been able to hear FPD, love this little guy so far

i had the best reception from the Mt Elden Site now this is a multi type system so NAU radios might not be simulcast on all the sites, so i would pick the site closest to the University
