• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Let's solve this democratically, I vote for adding a incident section to the forum. Please don't turn this into a peeing match.

"don't change a thing"

it's not like there is a lot of activity in this section. the posts "on [this]a message board intended for discussion about radio communications" are not buried and lost among "post on this message board for Fire/EMS/PD Incidents."

FWIW, WIA now has over 500 members which includes tons of firebuffs, firefighters, law enforcement, numerous media outlets, and plain old scanner nerds. Secondary group called WIA2 is popular for sharing photos of incidents and discussing them and also has a nice following of members with good information. Both groups made the transition to Google groups a couple years back because no other groups service was reliable with timely messaging. Many members get breaking alerts sent to phones and pagers. Posting on the main group is limited to confirmed ongoing incidents but WIA2 is open to anything.
