I just picked up a Baofeng UV-5RA
Besides my local repeaters, and analog Emergency Services channels, What are good channels to have in the radio.

128 Channels only o use a few of them seems like a waste.
BTW no ham ticket yet (working on it )

I have a Baofeng UV-5R and have the channels I need to use for Ham use. You can put the public safety channels in the radio*** in receive ONLY!!!*** Have been told that you cannot use them for transmit because the Baofeng is not type accepted by the FCC*** One channel you can put in is NWS (National Weather Service) for weather updates. It is very nice for me to have 162.550 Indianapolis in Channel 0. If I am out and need to hear what is going on I can go to channel 0 and get it 24/7/365.
