Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm wondering if anyone has found a combined mobile public address system which can also be used for Ham radio?

I'm looking for a setup where I can have one microphone, and a switch where I can either have traffic from the radio or my voice fed to the speaker mounted on the front of the vehicle.

If you have a link to a website that sells this type of device, I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks!

get a cb radio with the pa! :)
that or you might be able to get a cheap police like siren box with a PA, the 2nd option would probably be decently priced, but i just wouldn't want the police thinking i was a whacker! heh, so get a cheap cb radio with PA.....

My Motorola Spectra with DEK and Systems 9000 amp do the job quite nicely with 100 watts of audio to the PA, as well as radio rebroadcast. You can usually find the setup on Ebay for less than 300 bucks with a 110 watt transmitter.

Kingpin...FYI, the audio section doesn't run at 100w, more like 30 or 40w.

To the OP, unless you use a commerical radio like Kingpin (and myself plus many others) or use a standalone siren like the FedSig PA300 that has a feature called Radio Rebroadcast (RRB), you really can't interface a ham radio to any ol' PA system. Unless you really need a siren, or you buy a setup like the Motorola X9000 or Spectra that has one with it, there isn't much point to buying one just so you can rebroadcast the radio.

Because I'm bored, here's an example:

(Warning: .pdf bombs ahead)

Buy a FedSig PA300

Buy a decent speaker

Take the speaker leads from your hammy rig, and connect them to the RRB wires in the PA300 harness. When you select "RADIO" on the PA300, anything the radio receives will be rebroadcast on the external siren speaker. All of this equipment can be had on ePay for a fraction of the new price, so if you really wanted to do something like this, you could probably do it for under $200 for the siren and speaker.

to Vern M:
The reason he may be wanting to do it is if he's the type to spot trains or some thing like that. The reason i want to hook a scanner to a pa system when i get my truck is so if i am first on a scene to a call with my fire department is so that i can know what units i have coming and how far away they are. i know you will probably say why don i have a radio and the simple reason is that with my county's new radio system only officers are allowed radio's and i'm not an officer just an enigne man.

If you are wanting to have your voice simulcast to the pa and over the air, these will not do that. They will allow audio from your ham radio and/or the mic on the pa to go over the outside speaker. What you are transmitting over ham radio will not be heard on the outside speaker.
