I purchased a used HP1. Trying to install Sentinel to update the database, when I click on the drive I get
"the file or directory is corrupted or unreadable," so I can't install. Any suggestions how to fix this or is the unit bad?

I had the same problem on Windows and Linux Mint.

The installation of Sentinel is an interaction between Uniden and your computers, unrelated to the purchase of the HP-1. In fact, I downloaded Sentinel, updated the Database, and created a half dozen (or more) FLs on three computers, during the three days I waited for my first HP-1 purchase to arrive. With that in mind, your question is confusing. The only "units" that could be "bad" are your computers.

Thanks for the replies. Let me try to clarify what's happening. I did download and install Sentinel on my computer while I was waiting and also did some updating. When I plug it in to my computer nothing happens. A video I watched on Youtube says it'll be installed as a separate drive. In Windows Explorer it finds the drive but it still won't communicate with Sentinel.

A few things to try (in this order):

1) Open battery compartment, remove batteries, remove then reseat the microSD card.
2) In Sentinel: SCANNER --> CLEAR USER DATA and check the "Show All Drives" option. Then, select the scanner drive and OK.
3) If the drive didn't show up in 2, try a different cable, a different SD card, a different computer.

I read the post that he was trying to install Sentinel from the scanner. If that is the case, he will have to DL Sentinel from the Uniden website prior to step 2.

Sounded to me like he already did.

The problem is getting worse so I think it's somewhere in my computer. I had installed Sentinel but after watching the video I thought it would be installed when I plugged in the scanner so I uninstalled it. I just tried to reinstall it and it says I can't because I need the .net framework. I downloaded the framework and it told me it was already installed.

Got Sentinel installed. I've tried 2 cords and neither of them communicate with the HP. Again when I try to open the drive as shown in the video I get the message stated in the first post.

I tried a different sd card and got SD Card file error. Remove batteries for 1 minute. I did so twice and it did the same so I put the original SD Card back in. In Sentinel when I click clear user data no card is found.

As a note, all the counties around me are found and heard but nothing from the county I'm in which is all analog.

Yes I did, that's why I stated I've tried 2 cords and 2 sd cards.

UPDATE: I tried the SD Card in a card reader and got the exact same message about being corrupt or unreadable. I formatted another card and I get the SD Card File Error. Now the card that was working is getting the same error so I can't use the scanner at all now. I'm sure there's a way to get the card formatted correctly. I just don't know how.

With a Windows PC (any version) you should use the SD Formatter 4.0 version software to format the SD card as a first step. Here's a link to the website to download the software.

https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/

Scroll down the page, you'll find SD Formatter 4.0 for Windows. Download it to your PC and install it. Use this program to format your SD cards. Then use Sentinel to load your firmware & data.

If the SD Formatter program reports your SD card(s) corrupted, you will need to buy a new SD card or cards (it's good to have a spare).

Problem solved. I reformatted and went to Sentinel and it recognized the card, I updated the firmware and now I'm getting my own area too. Thanks for all the help. I didn't find a solved button to use.
