[qoute] Dedication Held for Hospital of the Future
September 25th, 2007 @ 12:14pm

A huge ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the dedication of the new Intermountain Medical Center in Murray.

It's the largest hospital in the Intermountain West and flagship hospital for Intermountain Health Care. The new hospital is actually comprised of five distinct hospitals.

Kem Gardner, chairman of the Intermountain Health Care Board of Trustees, said, "It is a marvel to behold as it rises majestically out of this 100-acre campus and should provide expansion opportunities far into the foreseeable future."

The lobbies feel more like a hotel than a hospital. Warm colors are everywhere. Every room is private. Every room and operating suite has windows. Every room has a bed for a family member to stay with his or her loved one.

The hospital campus cost $560 million to build.

The Intermountain Medical Center is at 5121 S. Cottonwood St. in Murray.

If you'd like to see the hospital, it will be open to the public this Friday and Saturday.

It will open to patients on October 29. [/qoute]

Maybe we can go as a group Saturday after our in person meeting? any thoughts? Also any word yet on new frequencies at all? and will lifeflight move its primary operations to this facility?

A few more details. The tours will be from 8am - 8pm both days. I also have come across some cool stuff about life flight have a look at the links:

http://intermountainhealthcare.org/xp/public/lifeflight/aboutus/
http://intermountainhealthcare.org/xp/public/imed/services/tower/life-flight.xml

Life Flight's new home base at Intermountain Medical Center is good news for people who need help because its location in the center of the valley means life-saving care is closer and faster.

So Life flight IS moving :)

I think that the fire departments are being shown the facility today. I have heard a few things on VECC Tac 10 talking about various rooms and locations.

I went today. Very Informative. Great facility. I encourage everyone to get a sneak peak tomorrow. I will go again if anyone at the In-Person wants to go after that. I did get a ton of pics.

Most interesting - Monitor your scanners close on Oct. 29th (Opening Day) They have to transfer some 300 patients from LDS and cottonwood. Should be very interesting all the ambulances involved. They also will transfer ICU Patients with multiple heli flights.

I was at this event today to fill some generators with fuel for the information tent they had setup outside. WOW, what a facility. I think they are trying to give U-Med a run for their money with all the new specialty centers there. I did not realize it was that big of a complex.

Just a reminder that this is only a few days away...

Has anybody spotted a new TG for the hospital as of yet?

Maybe they will pick up the talkgroup from Cottonwood, which will be closing.

Just checked my handheld and it's in there from the last build...IMED. I keyed it up and it shows 16896 on Trunker...the old Rocky Mtn. Hospital TG.

Talk about an inside track. By the way, where is/was Rocky Mtn. Hospital? I don't remember ever hearing about it before today.

Rocky Mountian was the old FHP Hosptial just south of I-80 between State and Main. I think that the School District has the building now.

It was the old FHP at 2100 south and State. And that went bankrupt. Then it became Rocky Mountain and no matter how hard they tried, people had the same reaction you had "Where is it?" So it never really got a good start and it went out of business as well. Which is really kinda sad, brand new building, middle of the town, right off of I-80 and I-15. Now I think it's the Salt Lake County School District Headquarters.

Good answer, you beat me to it!! Looking at the times, we must have been answering at the same time.

I remember seeing that building, and I remember now that it looked like a medical building or there was a marquee or something, but it never sunk in. Isn't that strange? Like both of you said, they had what should have been an ideal location and yet it was unknown.

Has anyone actually confirmed that the new hospital is using the old TG? or is this just speculation?

Well... WW7Y has a radio that has the TG listed at IMED so one could deduct that this would be the new TG for the hospital...

Beyond that we dont have anything as of yet.

We should start to hear traffic next week so we will know for sure then.

I'd say that is pretty good confirmation.

Patch on Site 3

Just as an FYI...

Today at 15:29 my UniTrunker spotted a patch between Cottonwood Hospital (TG: 16736) and what we are thinking the new IMED (TG: 16896).

It is still showing on the screen so I am thinking it is still active.

Ready, get set, go.........
The time is almost here for the new IMED to open. Sources say that starting Monday morning at 06:00am, Life Flight and Ambulance/EMS crews will start transporting into this new facility. It should make for some interesting radio comms. You all wil have to fil me in on all the good radio activity. I am stuck in a hotel room in Hutchinson, KS. until Wednsday. I will miss all of the good stuff. I wish I had brought a scanner with me here because I am staying right across the street from the Hospital here (they even have a "Life Team" helo stationed here). I thought it was a little poe-dunk town but there seems to be some good monitoring activity here cause I have heard alot of sirens around.

LDS goes on trauma divert at 03:00 and IMED will pick it up around 12:00....in the meantime UMED will be the only trauma 1 game in town. Cottonwood is all but shut down now. Patient transfers start 07:00. All remaining patients at Cottonwood and some from LDS including NICU. Want to transfer 30+ premies??

All the hallways in IMED are named like the streets in the valley. The ER will have a monitor at the ambulance entrance which will show our unit # and the ER room we need to take our patient to. From the monitor, North will be several trauma "bays"...4 I think?? One of them is directly connected to the CAT scan room. Towards the south in the ER are some halls 100 South, 200 south, etc. Just like addresses. If your room in 215South you go down the 200 south hall to room 15. If you go straight ahead from the ER you come to a big hall called "State Street". It feeds the main tower. Continue straight ahead and you come to a "huge" hall, called...you guessed it..."I-15". It runs the full length of the campus from the cardiac building to the womens center. It couldn't be any worse than LDS. I have taken patients on a gurney tour there more than once. I'm sure there will be alot of confused EMTs/Medics for the first few days.

In Davis county from 1600 till 1900 we will have a extended transport time to IMED due to traffic. From the Bountiful area, it might take almost 1 hour to any trauma center, IMED, UMED, or McKay-Dee. Look for more Lifeflight/AirMed transports from our area during times of high traffic. We will have a chopper meet us at Lakeview, when we used to go directly to LDS. 10-39 to 5300 s at 1700hrs won't be fun.
