• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Heard CW (Morse) with a data transmission at 0110z today on 258.650MHz, possibly from UFO F10 @ 72 degrees East.

Went on for quite some time.

Attached audio file. How's your Morse code? :)

OT, but this reminded me of something that happened during the Kosovo war in early 1999.

The first night that NATO commenced bombing Yugoslavia, the targets would have included aerodromes and aeronautical radio navigation aids. The standard international practice with outage of these facilities requires a NOTAM (NOtice To AirMen) be issued by the aviation authority responsible for the area, alerting aircraft and agencies of the outage. On that night those on staff would have been a tad busy.

A NOTAM was widely circulated at the time and said to be genuine, issued by Belgrade, expressing a similar sentiment :)

I kept a copy here.
