I smell BS. The Iranians don't have the logistics and their speedboats don't have the range

Experts dismiss Iran naval threat to U.S. coast - September 28, 2011
It would be nearly impossible for Iran's navy to threaten the U.S. coast with warships, military experts said Wednesday.

The Ohio State University said Iran's navy is too small with too miniscule a budget to remain for long off the U.S. coast.

Iran to Send Navy Ships Near U.S. Coast: Commander - Sept. 28, 2011
The U.S. territorial sea generally extends 12 nautical miles, or nearly 14 miles, off the shore, according to the U.S. Office of Coast Survey.

I read that Iran has no place to resupply their ships, other than South America..and some other location.

Iranian Navy Ships are no threat to U.S. War ships. With satellite tracking, and over the horizon radar, it would be nearly impossible to be athreat to a U.S Warship.

I only see the Iranian Navy performing reconnainse work. Not likely that the U.S did not factor that in. U.S Warships, with electronics gathering information can be hundereds of miles away and hear every radio conversation. Remember Operation Iraqi Freedom? The U.S Navy submarine that belived they caught cell phone conversations of Saddam Hussein, so the U.S Navy fired a Tomahawk at the arena and blew it up, only to have CIA intel personnel on the ground say he was not there? Ooops.

The Presidents daily brief by his Intelligence and Security Personnel keeps him " Up to snuff" on daily events, political and military actions, elections, and a host of other topics. Obama will always know where the Iranian Navy is and what they are doing. You cannot hide from satellites. Submarines move undetected, and can track enemy ships. Remember about 10 or 12 years back? The ?? Russian sub?? that tracked one of our frigates for days before being detected? ??? 1985, 1987??? the enemy subs off of the U.S Coast that was not detected by our SOSUS?

To say that something, or an event is not totally infalliable is not true. We have a strong and powerful military. Since the Industrial revolution, we have competed with Germany. With Japan, China and Russia not far behind ; and almost surpassing, if not passing ; the U.S in technology and electronics.

Iran wants to push, but they cannot push much. Their is not a rule, or international law, to my knowledge ; that says that they cannot be in international waters. They can be there. But they can also be watched and monitored. They know they cannot hide. They know of satelllites. They know of electronic warfare. They know of submarines. To think any less would be ignorant.

Reports of a "New" Iranian cruise missile designed to take out war ships.

Iran Says Its New Cruise Missile Can 'Sink Giant Warships' | Fox News

Kinda hard to defeat a ships defense systems with a missle. Again , over the horizon radar. As well as marine radar , which goes from the top of teh water to the sky, and is not as limited as conventional radar , would detect the missle, at a negotiable stand off distance. Aircraft carriers, battle ships, crusiers and frigates have great self defense systems. Anti Ship missles, missles for anti - missle applications, and last line of defense is the Phalanx gun system(s).

I know what you are thinking. Isee it in your eyes. The U.S.S Cole incident. Their was, as I read ; "Rules of Engagement." The report I read, said that poor rules of engagement got a ship blown up. Poor rules of engagement, got sailors killed; and a Captain relieved of command. His Military career over, destroyed. That "Boat" should have never been allowed within aproxmately 6 or 700 yards of the Cole. This, to help prevent the boat getting close enough for what did occur.. a bomb. And the ability to fire a rocket, such as an RPG. SAilors and Marines should have been able, at a minium , to fire small arms and crew served weapons on that " Boat" that caused the explosion. Politicans won't let the U.S do that, to set an example..that if you violate a ships security zone, you will get " Lit up." Embassys abroad, U.S Navy Ships, and other interest. Politicans want American Service Members to pay for their inept decisions and poor leadership. Its common, and has been for some time.

Armchair warriors set in their recliners and criticize, eating chips and drinking pop. "Well, that was stupid." Well, Mr.Armchaair warrior.......It was, but that person had a boss too. If you want to criticize, if you want to complain, loose 60 pounds, go see a recruiter, go to MEPS ( Military Entrance Processing Station ) , raise your right hand and swear to uphold the Constitution of the United States, and Protect it against all enemys foreign and domestic. Go thorugh 10 to 14 weeks of hell. Get up and 5 AM, do 45 minutes of calenstitics, push ups and sit ups , go on a six mile run. Then come back shower, clean the barracks, eat chow, attend first formation ; then go though 10 more hours of hell and training. Make the 12 to 15 mile forced ruck march, with full gear and 100 pounds or so of gear on your back. Track though the woods at night for 8 or 10 miles with a compass and a map. Play in the woods in the downpouring rain. Attend the classes, that if you cannot hack it academically ; you get seperated from the Military cause you were to ignorant. If you are not going to do that ; keep your ugly potato chip, coca-cola mouth shut.

Intimidation is a method of war. It is a method to try to overwhelm your enemy psychologically. That is all Iran is doing. If a Iranian Warship, fired upon a U.S Warship. Iran would pay.

Ahmadinejad does not want that. He currently is trying to build relations with the United States, so he can take advantage of us later. Ambassadorship, to find out information, gain our trust, change our views to pro, about the Iranian Regime. Get more U.S subsistance ; and technology and weapons help ; in a claimed effort to help combat terrrorism.

If Iranian Ships enter Interantional waters..it is for a reason and a purpose.

My thoughts exactly! They must not like having a Navy. If they had the guts. They would have half the US fleet shadowing them, not to mention the subs

Tatical considerations are ---> Militarily and politically.

Also considerations have to include the repercussions. If Iran fires on a U.S Ship, the ship that fired the missle would most certainly be destroyed, with all, or most of their sailors lost. What would it cost for Iran to replace that warship, and could they? How would that effect Iran on the political and world front? What would their allies think of the move? The days of " Red October" are most certainly gone. Terror and destruction is now done by small, mobile, and undetected terror networks. Small cells that bring havok to the U.S and its allies.

The age of Iranian weapons is not the best, as most of their weapons are old. Some , second "Hand Me downs" from other communist countrys. Their intelligence is lacking, and they depend on other nations for intelligence and information, as does Cuba and other third world nations. But they pay handsomely for it.

But this still means that they are not to be underestimated.

Any weapon is useless if you do not know how to effectively employ and use that weapon, and do not take its limitaitions in to consideration.

Pistols, shotguns, machine guns, sub machine guns ; right up to missles, bombs and rockets. Not knowing their use, effectiveness, limitaitons and faults, makes them very limited.

Yeah. That kind of thinking is what gets you in trouble. History lesson , as an example. Remember the "Tet Offensive", as well as other Military strategies where deception cost some militarys a significan loss at conflicts?"

The "Politicans" as I call some of them, at publically funded think tanks, the reasearch for this, the military analysit for this ; don't know schit from shinola. And some speak, so Senators and Congressman will like what they hear, cause if they don't...So long public funding. Oppps, I guess I should have not told the truth.

White House, experts dismiss Iran naval threat to U.S. coast - CNN.com]

Where did they get the money, funding, fuel and supplys to do this in the first place? Russia? Petroleum income? Is Ohio State University sure that there is not some kind of other source of income, or other payment for services rendered? Travel and resupply. travel and resupply. Someone has to give them money, and equipment to do this. Who? Or is it entirely possible that they are well funded from sources within Iran, as well as outside Iran.

Along with Navy ships at a safe distance, and fully equipped U.S Navy F-18s circling overhead like buzzards, teamed with with Navy E-6 Bravos. I fell safe. To far from Iran to nurse a crippled ship back to home port, should it just become " just" damaged. And no infinate supply of material and ammo, to sustain a lengthy attack and defense.

Anyway.....I will be tuned into the "AM" band. :)

Three Minutemen could flatten Iran. It would give "from sea to shining sea" a whole new meaning.

Nah. If you are making referece to the "Minutemen" Missle. I would just park half a dozen of " Boomers "
Ballistic missile submarine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia , off the southern coast of South West Asia, and turn the tomahawks loose. Iran, Iraq, Egypt, Pakistan, U.A.E, and some of the other countrys.

Help is help, I understand. But the United States needs to stop trading punches with terror governments and dictatorships. We have to have an overwhelming, and concise victory ; and a psychological impact to prevent future attacks, political and military hardships.

Yeah. "Our" terror Governments. You would think with the underhanded dealings, arms dealings and cash transactions, and payment for services rendered we could do much better.

Foreign policy of the United States, can either change with minor editions, or a major overhaul ; depending on the White House, and whom is in office at the time.

Iran Contra Affairs, I belive happen every day , between our intelligence agencys and government ; and other rogue nations. We support them, theyn policy changes, and the training and equipment we gave them is used against us. The business, benefit and profit of war. It happens. Why?

Wars cost thousands and thousands of lives, and now in the 21st Century, so does terrorism. A large group of uneducated people , to include 15-16, and 17 year olds ; pick up an AK-47 adn start shooting at the first American or coalition soldier that gets in their sights. Why....they were educated to do so. I don't belive that religion plays a large part of terror networks motivation.

If the same thing today, was to have happened in the 50s and 60s ; what would have our political leadership handled things. JFK? Eisenhower? Johnson and others. How would have they handled it?

The difference in handling situations and events such as the above, is based on the advancement of education , knowledge and reasoning from the world getting older. What would have been a description of "rational" behavior long ago would be irrational today ; such as nuclear warfare. An atomic bomb, well two actually, did stop the Japanese in its aggression of the U.S, as well as it's overt antaganism. The surrender on the battle ship Missoui was humiliating to them. We took thousands and thousands , if not millions of innocent lives ; BUT , we stopped the killing of Americans, and ended a war. If we used nuclear weapons in the Middle East, would the same thing happen today?

Why did Japan commit to the attack of Pearl Harbor? Why? Why did they take on a super power? I do not think it was because of the " Rising Sun."

Will we see the total destruction of Middle East rogue nations in our lifetime? Will we? What will our grandchildern have to contend with, beacuse we failed to effectively do our jobs at protecting them ( Government). Can we expect warfare to become more serious against us ( the U.S ) , and resuting in severe damage to our nation and it's citizens?

Policy changes from Europe, to the Orient ( Japan ), to Korea, Russia, and now the Middle East. OK, whom is the next nation the U.S. will battle? Underbudgeted for our Military, and overtasked we still continue the fight against our enemys. How much longer will we be able to effectively sustain ourselves, to win the battles and conflicts of the future?
