I enjoy my BCD996T at home and in the car. I would like to install it in the trunk of my Goldwing motorcycle (where the cb radio or cd player would go). The hook ups should be no problem. My question: Will the BCD996T be able to take the pounding and jaring of the road or will it turn to jello after about 6 months. I know that several Car GPS' won't stand up to the abuse. I even thought about even adding a cushion (like in a gun case) for the extra protection.

If you have tried it... I sure would like to hear 'bout it.
If you work for Uniden (UPman)... it would be swell to hear from the source.
If you can't restrain yourself from responding... then just jump in :)

Thanks

David,

Thanks for the response... but I don't have access to Yahoo's service.
What was the conclusion of the post?

Thanks

Only a few clicks and you can sign up. He has had it in the trunk of his GoldWing for quite a while. My intent was to give you the page since it has a link to send an e-mail to the thread starter, the actual address is hidden.

Hey B52.
David passed your post onto me via Yahoo..
I installed my 996 on the Wing in May '08. I originally planned to put it in the Mustang, but since I rarely drive it and we were getting ready for our annual 9 day ride I started thinking the Wing would be more appropriate. The location scanning via GPS really makes it worthwhile since it can do the work of keeping up with the systems of interest even when the Remote Head isn't attached during short grocery rides or inclememt weather. If you have any of Kennedy's audio adapters like the CellSet or DualSet, getting the audio into the Wing is a snap. Mine runs through the intercom so that the radio calls will mute the music.. Of course the downside to that is you can't hear it through the dash speakers. I think Jon has an Aux "set" that does that too now.. I already had the Kennedy stuff before the scanner... http://www.cellset.com/

So far I've seen no ill effects from the installation.. I have it out this week cause I did the Frimware upgrade on Sunday. Wanted to play with it a bit in the car before I put it back in the Bike... Tomorrow's gonna be riding weather again, (greater than about 34 degrees and no precip!) so it may go back in tonight... I've got some pics of it on Flickr here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/crowemag/2499937339/in/set-72157605112979397/
The first 8 or 9 are of the Scanner and the Remote Head on the Texelent bar. I've decluttered the bar a bit since those pics, but you'll get the idea.
The scanner itself sits on top of the CB.. I was going to put some padding between them, but the stuff I had made it too thick.. I did use some super lock from RS on the bottom, and padded the sides a bit.

That's about all I can think of now.. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the Speedy Response

John,

Thanks for the response. It took me awhile but I did the Yahoo thingie, saw your setup and read your post. I can't wait to install mine soon.

I will not be using a remote head, just the 996T itself in the trunk. I hope to also get an inexpensive gps dedicated for the scanner itself soon. I plan on connecting the scanner to the "Aux" so I can control the sound level and mute via the handlebars. Just will not be able to use the mp3 while using the scanner (unless I figure out a way to connect both to a switch attached in the left faring pocket... nice:).

This set up will keep me from having to pay the "Honda Tax" (cb radio) and still listen to the gang while on group rides. The police freq's will be nice while doing solo distance rides.

Thanks

You're welcome.

I actually loaned an AOR 1000 scanner to a riding buddy for last years annual ride so that he could hear us too.. Being able to talk to each other or at least hear is much safer than hand signals! He's now convinced that he needs his own Wing and it's going to have a CB in it. (He borrowed his dads instead of taking his Kawasaki Connie)..

Scannermaster has a Serial GPS that can be hardwired easily to the Accessory post on the fuse box.. I tried the Garmin Serial 18 but it has a cigarette lighter plug that won't stay connected due to the vibration. I'll use that in the car when I get the 396XT due out this quarter from Uniden :)

Happy riding!

John
