• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Is the Pofung GT-1 really THAT bad?!

I was just checking out another super-cheap radio, the Baofeng Pofung GT-1, but according to a review this model is absolute junk. It says that the "out-of-band signal" makes them deaf and useless.

Anyone had experience with them? Are they really THAT bad? Here is the review: https://hamgear.wordpress.com/2015/03/28/review-pofung-baofeng-gt-1/

Ps: It's a simple 16 channel + FM radio ham-walkie (my new term for these radios :D ) for only $20! It could be a great walkie radio if it worked.

If Hans says so then it is true

Hans is a very technical and through engineer and reviewer when it comes to Chinese radios.

If he states that the spectrum purity is off and wouldn't recommend it - that's kinda final....

Hans has a solid reputation across the web and bloggersphere

Too bad, this little Pofung looked nice. :(

Maybe it's still an option for people who don't have too much radio activity in their area to avoid the interference issue that can cause the mentioned problem.

Why bother? It's a re-cased BF-888S basically.

And most baofengs on an external antenna go deaf... They work fine as an HT unless you're in serious close proximity to a high power transmitter.

My 2 cents.

My personal experience with Baofeng, Pofung, have been really good. Surprisingly good for the cheap radios they offer, including the radios themselves. I prefer to use Wouxun as I am an Authorized Dealer & Technician, and I enjoy the features of Wouxun products. I try to say "Don't just go off the reviews, have your own experience." I've never personally used the GT-1 myself, nor do I know anyone who has used it. Just check out some reviews from trusted sites, and if you think its worth it, then go for it. That's my 2 cents.

it works like bf-888 same type of reception. the speaker is a little muffled compared to BF-888 but works like a Baofeng. Its ok for Handheld
