A friend of mine just ordered one and advised he was told that they are no longer being made but no one seems to know why or is this a bad Internet rumor?

Poster it would be really helpful and important to everyone if you could find out who your friend ordered it from and told him that it is discontinued. What was the vendors company name. See if you can find that out for us. They would never discontinue a flagship radio without having something else already being sold that is better and I don't think that is going to ever happen.

I could be wrong.

So the guy that told me is blind. He uses a laptop with a speech synthesizer that reads the screen to him. He says he had put in a general search for the sds100 and it read back that it was being discontinued. He has no idea what specific site he was on. The computer linked him to a blog where there were a bunch of posts talking about the sds100. My take is, the computer chip shortage may be slowing down the production of sds100 or just a bad information from the Internet. That's why I posted the question because I surely have no information about Uniden discontinuing to make this radio.

Ok, that makes a bit of sense.

A lot of "retailers" will throw word salad into their posts to get search site visits, very much the same way the old <meta> tag used to be abused for SEO. I pulled up duck-duck-go via a remote VPN, and the first suggestion was "Searches containing SDS100: This item was discontinued..." ... and the post was for a Ni-mh battery charger. The SDS-100 text was buried farther on down the page in a wall of text, and not even relevant to the item. I think your buddy's screen reader got bit by a red herring.

My bet would be that the site was, "forums.radioreference.com". :)

There was a thread with the same title a couple weeks ago, and the answer was the same ... there has been no announcement that the SDS100 (or SDS200) has been discontinued. Yes, there is a shortage of them, just like every other electronic device, due to supply chain issues and the semiconductor shortage. You are likely to see "out of stock" on many vendor websites. Uniden's site, in particular, will probably say that they are out of stock, because they prioritize deliveries to retailers over direct sales. You will also undoubtably find sellers on places like Amazon that will be happy to sell you an SDS100 or SDS200 for anywhere from $30 to $200 over retail price.

But discontinued? No.

I just got mine a little over a month ago and there seemed to be some in stock All I know is the longer I use mine the more I realize that if my old pro 96 could handle simulcast it would beat my sds 100 hands down for audio clarity and range
