I was wondering, if cellular telephones, ink jet printers and computers can have a bluetooth option, why can't scanners?
Also, is there a wireless headset that will interface with a 996T so I can walk around my house and listen to the traffic?

You'd need to find something that can transmit the audio from the scanner. There are several threads about this topic already, do a search for bluetooth and I'm sure you'll find several with more info and particular models of not only headsets but also the transmitters as well.

Good luck...

Bluetooth headsets are common. If you look on Circuit City or your favorite electronics store for "wireless headset" you'll find a ton. But they are all bluetooth. The range is typically 30 feet max, under good conditions.

I'm not sure you'll find anything with a better range than that.

You could use just about any wireless headphone for it, too. There are 900 MHz headphones. There are also some headphones using BT-A which are rated 30 meters (about 100 feet) instead of BT's 3-10 meters.

There's a ton of them, but for compact use ... get one of the bluetooth models that somes with the transmitter. Typically a about the size of a USB memory key and they have an audio plug on them. You plug the transmitter "block" into the scanner and just wear the headphones. They typically auto-pair so you don't need to worry about that. Most have a battery life of about 8 to 10 hours (or more) before you need to recharge the transmitter and headphones.

The set I have is from Creative...works great as wireless headphones for my XM radio, no reason it wouldn't work just as good for my scanner.

I use a Jabra Bluetooth transmitter and a Motorola bluetooth headset with my 396 works great, very discrete as everyone walks around with a bluetooth headset nowadays.

Do you have any links showing these items? I am interested in using with my BR330T.

Probably needs to be mentioned that the Jabra transmitter has a 2.5mm plug on it, and most if not every single handheld ever made has a 3.5mm jack sooo... either you'd end up splicing a 3.5mm plug on it or use some type of 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter. Personally I'd splice the 3.5mm plug on it, relatively easy thing to do since I know I'd never be using such a device with a cell phone after buying it anyway.

I love the Motorola Mini H9 for these kinds of purposes (no I don't have one, unfortunately):

or even smaller is the BlueSpoon5G:

Someone had the H9 here on Craig's List a few weeks back for $50, missed out on that one. Would have been pretty cool if I could snagged it and that Jabra, would make for some pretty stealthy monitoring capabilities these days. ;)

Today I just bought a new Sony Bluethooth Stereo transmitter and headphones they work great and it does have a 3.5 mm plug. I really like the new Sony one.

Yes the Jabra does have the 2.5 mm plug but a $2.00 adapter fixed that.

OK, I clicked on the link. I see a forum. Near the top of the page are the words, "Cheap Bluetooth solution for your scanners." I don't see any information relating to that subject.

What's the "cool" thing there?
