I see an article that the state police are putting on 50 Harley Davidsons.

Any idea of the radio equipment. Will it be district frequencies or will they be on Starcom?

I've been hearing them on Dist. 11 and they were using HF4 155.460 on I-55-70 and the investigations frequency of 154.905 on I-64.

They go by "mary 7" etc.

The radio equiptment would most likely be Motorola "Motorcycle" spectras.

They look the same as a regular Spectra, but the control head is remote mount and the actual radio is in the back, doing 15w instead of 25/45 due to exposure limits, and the mic is usually inside the helmet.

When they were working out of Fairview Heights, I heard a lot of C-C (in this case, I guess it would be motorcycle-motorcycle) traffic on IREACH (155.055).

Are they the units that go by the call sign "Mary" and a number? Or is that just the small rural departments that are usually on their local county main dispatch freq?

15, 7 Mary 3 and 4, 10861 just occured...Oh, wait...wrong state and wrong decade :)

Motor units are a good thing for urban enforcement where sedans can't travel thru heavy traffic, but the Harley police motor would not be my first choice. Even though this is home for HD, I believe the BMW police motor units are a much better choice.

I recently say an ISP motor in my travels down there, and they are sharp looking bike.

They have had them for a little while now.... June of 2005 I stopped in at the Rest Area on I-70 just before Pocahontas (red neck woman?) and saw one come blasting up to the rest area due to some doofus setting off the Emergency call phone thing they have at the rest areas. Full blown Harley cop bike, and indeed was running a Motorcycle Spectra with a 1/4 wave VHF spike on the back.

I got behind one in Oregon, Thursday afternoon. He was headed north. So I don't know whether it was for District 1, or District 16.

Looked freakily like the CHIPS bikes already mentioned in the thread. But it was a Harley, instead of a Kawasaki.

I heard some up in District 2 a few weeks ago, and now heard some new ones here in District 10. M18 & M10 in the Champaign area.

Re; ISP motorcycle units...

ISP in northern Ill. has been using "Mary" units now for awhile.
Where in the past speed details have been noted on ireach and on 42.5
they are now on the "old" Ispern freq. 154.680 and 155.460.
Also I've been able to confirm that ISP aircraft no longer has low band equip.
Either does the "Mary" units or DNR water units. Some ISP Dist. will no longer
tx. weather alert tones on 42.500 such as Dist.1 in sterling.
I'm curious to know however if any one knows or has heard if the mobile
exstenders on 155.5050 will re-tx the traffic from the starcomm sites??
73's!
