Heard 55-538 calling the Fort Wayne post. I do not see a "55" unit number listed on the ISP wiki page. Anyone know what this unit number is for?

There have been a few odd ones popping up in the past two weeks that I just figured were garbled traffic. Unfortunately, the traffic related to these calls has been vague and insufficient to determine the type of unit associated with the unit prefix.

Thanks. I heard another new one down here too. I heard an 84 unit calling Versailles. The context of the conversations lead me to believe they are ISP mechanics.

Thanks for that info, hambone302! I can't say that I've heard a lot of activity regarding that unit prefix in D22, but it is always great to get a more-complete list of unit prefix assignments.

Edit: I guess it should be no surprise that I don't hear Hoosier Helpers traffic up in D22; their service areas only include central, northwest, and southern Indiana.

Interesting. Thanks. I don't think that's what they are down here. These conversations were reference taking a commission for service and then the post asked them if a certain Trooper's commission was fixed.

I'm thinking the 55 unit I heard may have been a Morgan County unit and not an ISP unit.

Very curious for a Morgan County unit to be calling for an ISP post in an entirely different district and region. That said, the unit number is consistent with a county unit (given that Morgan is the 55th county, though you already knew that). Very curious.

Scanner Freak Quoted from Text*** I"M thinking the 55 Unit I heard May have been a Morgan County Unit and not a ISP Unit*** 55 is assigned to Morgan County as per BMV license plate prefixes.Understand that a 55 unit was calling but I wanted to back up the point in question the 55 is Assigned to Morgan County. If this is a 55 Car number that is on ISP then after someone finds out what 55 and 84 are then that infomation needs to be added to the Indiana WIKI for Indiana State Police Unit Numbers.

yes ISP has 55, 56 57, 58, 75,84 and other numbers, As previously stated 84 is Hoosier Helpers. The others are troopers, radio maint. and investigators, etc. they have a few other numbers as well. And that 55 unit you heard was indeed ISP, I heard it too.
If you run Unitrunker a lot and litsen and compare unit numbers and radio UID's you'll also notice some things like troopers with multiple unit id's. Some unit ID's are for specific jobs paid for by federal funds as well and only used by troopers working those jobs and then reverting back to their primary unit number. It helps ISP track the hours etc. for bookkeeping purposes.

Actually, it was not ISP. I've confirmed off the forums via conversations and the units RID that it was indeed a Morgan County unit. Ft Wayne was merely telling the unit he was on the wrong channel. I mistakenly assumed it was ISP since Ft. Wayne answered.

The 84 unit I heard was not Hoosier Helpers. They do not service my part of the state.

This may be true in some parts of the state, but down this way Troopers do not use special unit numbers or radios for details. Only time I see a Troop down here not use their normal RID is when they are in a pool car.

Aren't 56XX units State Excise Police?

Yes, correct.

55 is no longer used (was Connersville for a short time)
56 is Excise, not ISP
there has never been a 57
58 is Maintenance People
75 are IPSC radio personnel, techs and administrative
84 is Hoosier Helpers only used in the Indy area
These can all be found in the WIKI

Units do not use different car numbers for different projects. Whether they are working regular duty, STEP, CARE, DUIEP, MCSAP they always use the same car number.

Although I can corroborate that this is true for District 22 given what I've heard on the air, we can't be sure about other districts throughout the state.

I heard a 92 unit mark on a couple weeks ago. Ran a couple plates and that was it. I called the post commander and asked. She told me it was a special investigative unit.

This is just a curiosity (NOT a rebuke or otherwise), but do you have some existing relationship with that post or the personnel stationed there? I normally wouldn't have considered contacting an agency in regards to traffic I heard on the air. Regardless, thanks for the info!

I heard Hoosier Helpers in Indy a few days ago as 83 units on DOT TMC.

And the 92 is correct. I hear them too. Thanks for the conformation on who they are.
