Well i guess it has been awhile since I have listened to Walker County. Jasper Law Dispatch is now encrypted. I still hear the cars.Anyone fill me in when all this took place? I'm out of the loop!

Maybe they're realizing that encrypting is putting lives at stake.
It takes more to decode an encrypted signal, more pieces to put together.

I remember listening to the police cars (regular p25) talking to dispatch saying repeat or 10-9, I am just happy I can still let my family living in Jasper use my older analog scanner to listen

How is encryption putting lives at stake? I'm not a fan of it as a scanner enthusiast, but there is a need for it in some circumstances. The City of Birmingham have already or will be encrypting most talkgroups on the Jeffco system-soon to be part of the AFRN system to protect the citizens we serve. As a firefighter/paramedic with the city, we save the lives. Scanner listeners don't.
