My first experience with this was when I went to Patuxent, MD to get a system ID on the new 380mhz site at the naval air station. While I was there I also searched for the control channel for the existing 400mhz Motorola type2 system. I found it on 411.325 and programmed a new system in my 396T. I didn't setup a band plan. When in scan/search mode the control channel no longer displayed. It changed to 386.3 which is the control channel for the new M/A Com-built P25IP system. With the band plan set it stays on the proper control channel.
A few weeks ago with the thunderstorms creating good conditions I was able to receive the Ft AP Hill JNCR system about 60 miles away. I did some other band searching and found a control channel on 142.475 that I had never heard before. It's the existing AP Hill Motorola type2 system. So I programmed that into a new system without setting the band plan. Once again in scan/search mode the control channel changed to the 380mhz cc, 385.7875.
Can anyone explain what's going on?
