After reading a post in the government section I went to the popular communications website, looked at the front page, and then went right to the subscribe page. Ordered a 1 yr subscription.
Can't wait to get my first issue! Next i'm thinking about subscribing to Monitoring Times, I have a free issue that i'm looking at right now. what other magazines are out there that are decent?

IMO, Pop Comm and Monitoring Times are the best. All others seem semi-professional and a bit watered down.

I subscribed for a while to the .pdf version of MT and it was nice - MUCH cheaper than the print version.

Monitoring Times also offers an Adobe PDF formatted version from their web site. It cost less, is delivered much faster, and doesn't get destroyed by the US Postal system!

A few years ago I did a review of PopCom, MT and ScanningUSA, still available at http://www.n9jig.com/radio/magreview.pdf

Since this article was written ScanningUSA disappeared, Tom Knietel has died and many other changes have occurred. All in all though the review still captures the general idea of the mags.

Take it for what it is, one man's opinions...

Remember RADIO? It was carried at RadioShack.

Ahh yes, the good 'ol days. http://usera.ImageCave.com/Poltergeist/DSCN1612.JPG

I remember when I first picked up a Monitoring Times magazine at a Borders in Utah. I said to my self, "wow, this is a hefty magazine". Flipped through it and was amazed at all the information. Then when I turned to the back I saw an advertisement for the IC-R3. I said, "I have got to get me one of those!"
