I'll be visiting ABQ near the airport and plan to scan as much as I can.

Looking at Google it appears the airport tower is on the NE side of the field over in the Air Force area?? (Looking at a long shadow on the image)

Trying to figure out what the line of sight to tower will be from the hotel.

The runway layout is surprisingly complex from Google's overhead pix. Appears to be many generations of re-layouts.

Thanks.

The airport diagram points out the location of the tower on the airfield. From the research I have done about the airport, this is the orginal layout of the runways. The city wants to get rid or runway 17/35 so they can extend the terminal out east, however, the FAA won't let them do it.

Yep. That's the location I picked based on shadow.

Hotel is west of there and a very short line of sight. So I should have a good time.

Thanks!

I wouldn't watch planes from the hotel. The airport has a wonderful aviation viewing area near the approach end of runway 3, just south of the cargo ramp area. You can park and watch aircraft land just from the other side of the taxiway. Bring water and sunscreen with ya!

If I had a choice I wouldn't watch from the hotel either but.... we're at an indoor event so I have to stay put. So I'm not watching, just listening. At least it'll be air conditioned and nobody will give me a hard time about the scanner when using earbuds even if I'm not paying attention to the programs.

I noted that the AirNav site had the wrong caption for their airport photo. They said it was a view to NW when it was actually to the SE. They corrected it :)

Could that photo have been taken any further away??? I have plans on putting up a feed for the tower and approach.
