My 1103 came with this length of wire that plugs into the side of it. Can i put a alligator clip on the end of that wire and attach it to another longwire antenna outside ?
I want to make a longwire outside and stretch it from the corner of the garage to a anchor point out back, Its getting cold out and i will hibernete for the next couple months and will listen to the radio.

I am new to this and just want to improve reception.

Any help or pictures of your setup would be great

Thank YOu

Most little portables like this one will not take the energy supplied by a longer wire. It will very likely cause it to overload. You would notice this by having stations (like MW stations) showing up in various places on the HF band where it doesn't belong, for example.

These little portables aren't built for this. I'd save my money up for a good used desktop or even better, a SDR. In the interim, there are several places you can register (free) and remotely control other radios. Some of them are listed here

I would suggest making the connection as you described and see what happens. Connecting a couple of antennas together isn't always 'additive', it can also be 'subtractive'. That's dependent on several factors, not just length. If it doesn't appear to be beneficial simply disconnect one from the other. It certainly wouldn't be the first time it's been done.

if i use the aligator clip i can still use the radio with the supplied longwire if i wanna move to the porch on summer nights, otherwise it would be stuck in the radioroom.
That was my thought anyway.

I just love picking up the lowband stuff since i was sitting in my chair and listening to the scanner while it was searching and i got fire tones for the Mason City fire dept from Custer County dispatch, And that is in Oklahoma over 1000 miles away....I was hooked bad :)

I would not connect the wire to the antenna whip - there's usually a small amp attached to that whip. One static charge would easily zap it.

If memory serves, that little Kaito has a small antenna input jack. Stick with using that. Perhaps a quick shot of solder on the end of the wind up to attach whatever wire you want is in order here...Mike
