I am confused on some of this write up, I thought Allegan was going to have there own 800 system and not be a part of the statewide system. Note some of the other counties mentioned that are on this system. Are they just talking MSP POSTS in these areas or counties in general?? Good radio pictures as well.

Both. Any Public Safety agency can buy radios, pay for the programming and training, and pay an annual fee per radio and be on the system.

ALLEGAN COUNTY WILL BE USING THEIR OWN 800 SYSTEM, BUT WILL BE ON THE STATE POLICE TOWERS ACCORDING TO BOB TARRANT OF MPSCS. HE TOLD 24 HOUR NEWS 8 YESTERDAY THAT MANY COUNTIES WHO ARE GOING TO THEIR OWN 800 SYSTEM WILL ALSO HAVE BASE STATIONS THAT ARE PART OF THE APCO 25 PLATFORM SO THAT THEY CAN MAINTAIN SOME SORT OF INTEROPERABLITY WITH MSP.

Many agencies have A radio at dispatch that is on MPSCS, so they still operate on their own system yet have access to statewide from the 911 center.

Nice article on the system - strange that the director has NEVER heard of any other agency having communication problems! Must have misunderstood the question ;>

This is really stupid. It seems like they were more concerned with upgrading to a new system rather than using one that has been safe and effective for them over the last few years. I still have no clue why they went with MPSCS.

Only time will tell what happens.

I have never seen or heard

I have never seen, heard or read on, in, and or on any newspaper, television new program or radio program that anybocy except Kalamazoo are police agencies are having probles with MSP system.... In fact bothe Michigan State Police and Berriend County Sheriff Department tells the press the new MSP system is wonderful thing and the best communication system that have come out. in the last 40 yearr. I know that we all knoiw better, but for some reasons bothe local sheriffs department, local police departsment and the Michigan State Police in Berrien and Van Buren Country always talks positive about this system to the press!!! I don't know why!

Fire Department complian about it, but not law enforecment!

Livingston County had a story about a year or two ago in print and on WLNS TV about problems with reception in the western part of the county where PD units aired their complaints... I have a horrible time with the scanner in the Fowlerville area as well.

I suspect it's because most FD traffic is handheld, once you get past the dispatch info. From the basement of a house, or on the fringes of a tower, it's spotty. I understand it's designed as a mobile system, and coverage is based on mobile radios. Might explain the holes in the handheld coverage.
It cant be 'all great'. Ingham county is avoiding it well.

Anyone heard any updates on this? I've been hearing almost daily complaints about officers not being able to pick up signals in my area of the city. Often, they'll switch over to a totally different system. Last I heard, they requested all officers to transmit through 37 800 MHz. Is anyone familiar with this at all?
