Nope. Best bet would be to ask the media sources that have radios to stream the data online... That's what we did with Lansing Fire before P25 radios were available.

Kzoo County and Township are not encrypted in Kzoo County. only Kzoo City and some TAC channels that are through Kzoo County.
Now Calhoun county is another story

I have a newer scanner and could listen to all of their digital conversations. now everything is encrypted
Does the media have a radio that can listen to them? That's what confused me. Media can but I can't lol
They can apply for a special radio that can. I don't know who has to approve that, but I would think whomever is assign to that talkgroup would be the one.
Wish I could remember the name of it but it is for news media type people.
It's not a special radio - it's just the exact same one used by the base stations. It's just authorized by a rep from the agency (we had the fire chief) who will list the channels you can hear, then you buy the radio through MPSCS and they will program it.
well i guess i should look into getting a media license or whatever it is i'd need.. i've had so much info that the media should've caught on to but didn't. (in the past) but somehow whoever it is "monitoring" the scanner must've fell asleep or something.. i mean, on one drive-by/attempted murder/victim shot/police chase I had all of their names who were in the vehicle, dob's, make model of the car/license plate number/where the owner lived/ etc. etc. (need i go on?) and the gazette had no idea it had ever happened.. and mind u, this wasn't a 5 minute ordeal lol.. but yep, kdps is EXTREMELY paranoid when it comes to someone monitoring them.. probably think someone like me is using it to my benefit when in all actuality i'm trying to help when i can.. bol this bol that.. ughhhhh .. and i swear half the time the k9's never found what they were looking for... Put my GSD to work.. she'll find whatever she's supposed to! ahhh glad i could rant for a few minutes.. come on kdps! you really think these hood rats here know how to work a scanner? <--- terrible to say but COME ON! better worry more about them dash cams and the cams inside the station RECORDING everything you do wrong

Unless you are working for one of the local TV or Radio stations your probably not going to get one. I would imagine they even made those guys jump thru 50 hoops just to get one.

This is exactly why departments go to encryption! People don't just listen for the hobby. They call the media and get them down to the scene, and then the emergency services people have to deal with the media running around on top of the situation at hand. Also, giving BOLs out is the police/sheriff's department’s job, not for someone listen to a scanner. If they need the local medias help they will contact them. You may miss something while listening and give out the wrong information.
It's not just the media issues that make departments go to using encryption. It's people that hear something on the scanner and call into dispatch and ask questions. If you want to listen to things on the scanner that's great, I do, but don't call into dispatch to find out extra information etc because their busy in there and don't have time for that.
I'm not going after you doggg78, sorry if it sounds that way. These are just a couple things that bother me. We all like to listen, and sometimes people just forget that's what we're doing...listening
