They are moving to KASIS- work has already begun and the switchover is supposed to be done next summer. You will only be able to hear them in Chanute if there is a radio on the tower you are monitoring that is on the Turnpike's talkgroup.

Will they be on separate frequencies, or will they just have there own set of talkgroups?

Will they continue to use the same towers they use now?

As far as I know they will seamlessly be on KASIS with their own talkgroups just like any other troop of KHP.

I understand that the KTA has given KDOT $2 million to finish the KASIS towers along the length of the turnpike (KC to Wellington)- with the understanding the KTA gets first crack at the new system. The current turnpike VHF system is in bad shape with numerous dead spots along the length of the pike and radios that are falling apart.

That should help

It is good to see that KTA tossed in some money to help with KSIS. I wonder if Homeland security money, used in regions of the state could be used to help fill in the state.
