• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone know if mot capacity max portables such as XPR6550 will work on the coming Tier 3 Kenwood Trunk system, a flash would be in order for the XPR’s to upgrade to max, not sure if mot portables also can be run in strickly compatible ETSI DMR Tier 3 mode to run on other vendor system, it seems the moto trunk system can support other vendors radios

The moto portables can be run on other manufacturers dmr tier 3 systems. However, you often will lose the nice wow factor features with not being the same brand as the infrastructure. Another down side is that moto requires Radio Management to program Cap Max, which has a steep learning curve. TT

Mainly concerned with utilizing some existing moto on the kenwood system until which time they can be replaced, trunking compatibilty main concern at this time, no fancy encryption and location tracking, thanks for the reply

Unsure if Kenwood has a proprietary mode and a non-proprietary mode, but the system will need to be run in the pure DMR Tier 3 mode in order to use moto radios. Moto has tried to install every system I have touched in Advantage mode, which excludes non-moto subscribers and is proprietary. In my experience, Kenwood is less exclusive than Moto. However, keep your eyes open........ TT

Kenwood bought Radio Activity so they could offer a tier 3 solution under the brand Kairos, I would install in pure mode until I can get them switched over to kenwoods totally, the system is new kenwood offering due after March so trying to work out the details, more familiar with the Nexedge systems conventional I have installed. Yeah moto has a tendency to lean toward the proprietary side form obvious reasons

.....I completely missed where he asked that. Moto DMR Tier 3 is 2nd/3rd gen high tier radios only (xpr7xxx, sl7xxx, xpr5xxx, and e models of same radios). Infrastructure is SLR repeaters, MTR3000, and xpr8400 (I think 8380s too). Unfortunately, the 6550 won't do it. But if you have enough of the old subscribers, then patch the 2 systems together. TT
