• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, Just bought a Kenwood NX5300 Radio and software. Wadsworth PD and FD just moved to the MARCS System and I am trying to program the radio. I am in Zone/Channel Information and It said its needs a RX and TX Frequency. I put in the control channel frequency and saids it not in the range. Radio reference gives me the dec and hex format. Wadsworth PD is 32531 Dec and the FD is 32524. How do I get thoses in normal frequencies?

That's a trunk system, conventional scan is all you can do.

Unless the system owner programs it for you, there is NO non-affiliated scanning of any trunk systems.

RR lists the control channels and other repeater channels. Input the site closest to you and scan that. You can't track talkgroups either.

And...

MARCS is a 700/800MHz radio system.

The NX-5300 is a UHF radio. It won't cover 700/800MHz and never will. That's why it's giving you the "not in range" error.

If you wanted to do conventional scan, you should have purchased an NX-5400.

MARCS will NOT let you program your own radio to be used on the system. So unless you get the codeplug from MARCS, all you can do is use the radio as a scanner. Also the MARCS system is a 7/800MHz system. The 5300 is a UHF either 380-470 or 450-512MHz radio

I am using this as a scanner for my job to listen to PD and Fire. I am also I will be using this radio to talk to dispatch on a service channel frequency that is switching over to UHF in the next month so I can talk to them for my job. That is why I chose this radio due to UHF and said P25 as well. So I can use one radio instead of 2. At the moment I carry 2 radios one to listen to there traffic and one to talk to dispatch.
Any suggestions on what radio to get that would work my job?
Never though switching a radio system would mess a lot up.

Thanks I just call the cheif and he said Kenwood VP 5930 Radio. Does it all for my job. Thanks everyone for your input and help.

A VP5930 is a 700/800MHz mobile. It won't do UHF, you'd need to add a VP5830 plus a dual RF deck kit to make that work.

You'll still need to get the 5930 programmed by whoever does that for your agency. It's not something you'll be able to do yourself.

pssst.... the VM5000 wont dual deck like the nx-5000, that's why they use the multi-deck as VM7x30. the VM5x30 are single deck only.
