• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hello everyone. Newbie here. I recently took on programming radios for my company. I have a couple of TK-3400-K2 (TK-3400U16P) radios that I am working on. One I'm using to read the data from and write that data over using the KPG-160D program. I am able to read the one and see all the channels and frequencies. When I go to write to the other one I get an error "Ensure the Model Name and Market Code are correctly entered" When I go into the Product Information it is set to TK-3400 KMR [UHF]. I switch it to TK-3400 Protalk [UHF] the frequency switches from 452.06250 to 464.55000. 452.06250 is not listed under the drop down. What am I missing and how do I get it to the 452.06250?

The TK-3400 LMR and TK-3400 Protalk are the same radios with different firmware.

The KPG-160 will allow you to talk to the TK-3400 non-Protalk model just fine.
The firmware in the Protalk version won't let you program in freeform like the other radio, it only allows you to select from a predefined list of common itinerant business frequencies.

That is by design. The Protalk radios are designed for business use where they specifically don't want end users messing with frequency setup. Usually the radios are programmed via front panel keypresses using the predefined frequency list.

The solution to this is to find regular TK-3400 firmware and push it into the TK-3400 Protalk radio. I've done it in the past and it works fine. The Protalk radio will have the same firmware in it as the non-protalk radio and will let you do what you want.

You would need the FPRO.exe file that comes on the KPG-160 CD, and you'll need to find the TK-3400 firmware.
