I am relatively new to Kenwood and D-STAR.

Recently, I purchased a new Kenwood TH-D74A to get onto D-STAR.

76868

Is there a setting in the transceiver that allows me to see the distance of the D-STAR operator with whom I am communicating?

If so, how do I set it?

Thanks, in advance, for your assistance.

The remote operator has to configure their radio to transmit position information.

On your HT menu 630 set to ON will transmit your position when in DV or DR modes. If your GPS is also set to ON.

I don't have my D74 with me, I think it's a momentary display when location data is received during a DV/DR QSO, much like APRS.

If your D74 is properly configured to transmit location info you will see it on the aprs.fi website.

Hi, @Hit_Factor.

Thanks, so much, I executed your directions.

All relevant GPS and APRS features are set to on.

So, the operator, with whom I'm communicating, has to have his/her GPS and APRS features on in order for me to view their distance from my distance -- yes?

If this is in the affirmative, will that information automatically show up; or, do I need to be in a particular screen?

If so, what screen?

Thanks.

Yes, the other operator must also have transmission of their location enabled.

I'm listening on reflector 30c now and I'm not seeing any location data on screen. I know my ID51 shows location. I checked the APRS list, no DPRS data there. So far I see data on aprs.fi only.

These D74 are very capable HTs, with that comes complexity, seems I need to reference the manual for most tasks other than phone operation.

Hopefully someone else will jump in with a solution. I will keep monitoring and check some settings to see if I'm missing something.
