If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey guys. First post, so please take it easy.

I've been trying to read up on these radios and there isn't a wealth of info out there. I'm really new to the whole radio club, and am trying to fill my mind with info. But I'm not finding some answers. (It's very overwhelming!)

I have 8 TK250(G)'s that I need to talk with each other. I'd like to be able to use the channel functions too. I don't mind using an FRS (I know) frequency to have the radio's talk to each other. All radios when powered on say BLNK.

I have the programming software, KPG23D. I'm awaiting the cable to arrive. Now I know jumping into programing these guys is tough for a newbie, but I can't really afford the $75 programing fee per radio from the people in town.

These radios are going to be used for crew on film sets, so it's not like I need anything fancy. Just be able to talk to each other and have 8 or 10 channels.

So my question, will the programming software be too much for a newbie? Or is there a walkthrough guide that is somewhere out there for basic programming?

Thanks a bunch and I appreciate any help!

Simple answer. The KPG23D is a plain-jane DOS program and is easy to use. Only quirk is that XP and VISTA have a problem with running the software in a command window. I recommend using Virtual PC if your running XP, otherwise boot up in MS-DOS to run the program.

Remember, always read the radio to the computer first so all the settings are there for you to see firsthand. Otherwise you might just overwrite something important on these radios. Always save your work AND SAVE OFTEN!!!! You never know when the worst will happen and interrupt programming your radio.

If you run into problems, you can send me a PM. I have a TK-250(G) that I use for Amateur radio and Vol FD use. Hope it all goes well.

Kenwood TK-250(G) Programming

I don't know if this question has been asked or not.

I have the software (KPG23D) and the cable to program the kenwood tk-250(g).
My question is this: How do I get the radio into the program/clone mode?

Please send me an answer to w4jrz@yahoo.com

Thanks

PC programming mode

Press and HOLD both the LAMP and the LO buttons while turning ON the radio. The Lamp button is the one below the PTT button. You should see -PC- on the display once you are in the PC programming mode. Keep the volume mid level to allow communication. I had problems once programming when my volume was all the way down. 73, Chuck. KA0GFC

Part number is KPG-22. You can find it pretty easily on eBay. You will need to know the frequency you use at work before you do any programming to make it talk to others at work. send me an email when you get the cable and I will walk you through. It is fairly simple and easy to do. Pretty self-explanatory in programming.

you can use DOSBOX DOSBox, an x86 emulator with DOS and drag the KPG23D application floder into dosbox shortcut on your desktop and DOSBOX will open up along with the KPG-23D software.
