My question is , with a TK-280 (Ver-2) VHF radio, I want to scan within a bank as well as scanning the hole radio. system. The radio is in Multi-scan mode . But if I just want to scan the freqs assign to bank 1 instead of scanning all banks and freqs. what would i need to do to the radio programming be able to scan just one bank with out locking out all the other banks . Any suggestion . Thanks Have a good day. God Bless Steven
Love my 280 but yeah scan is where that model is lacking. You can set the model type two ways, conventional or trunking, and doing so really affects the way it scans.
If the model is set for conventional you have zones and channels. In the program software you can set scan for multi which goes through all channels added to the scan list in all zones or single which restricts scan to added channels of the zone you started scan with. One or the other. If you want to scan only a couple of zones you'd need to use multi and go through and delete all channels in the other zones you do not wish to hear. Really a PITA but that is the way it works. No other way to do it.
If the radio model is set for trunking, then you have systems and groups. You can still put conventional freqs in this way however (along with LTR trunked stuff). With trunking there is no multi/single. You can add or delete systems from scan with the D/A button but individual groups (channels) can only be locked out with the program software using "Group Lock Out".
I know, kinda screwy way of doing things, but at least Kenwood straightened things out on later models.
