• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have Kenwood TK-7160's and TK-5720. I had them programed with all my channels in one zone but have recently split them up into different zones to help with switching to different channels as I need. At the same time I added priority to my main channel as I was having trouble having it pickup off of scan as my guys were trying to transmit to me. Since I have done them 2 things now when I'm picking up transmissions it is (gonna try to descried this) it is very in and out per say maybe even choppy and very frustrating to try and listen to. So I wasn't sure if its doing that trying to go back and check on my priority channel or something else I should try and adjust. Any thoughts or suggestions??? thanks

If you're receiving on a channel that is not a priority then yes you are hearing the audio holes as the radio checks the priority channel. Some radios can do this very quickly and is not too noticeable, but others there is a hole as wide as a barn door. Try playing with the Lookback Timer A to find a balance between very broken reception and late (missed) priority traffic. My preference is 0.9 seconds.

Good question. If during channel priority scan there is activity (carrier) but the QT/DQT does not match the radio assumes there is another co-channel user not associated with you and switches to Lookback Timer B until the channel clears. A should always be shorter than B.

Is there anything I could of done to help with picking up my main channel while scanning without making it a priority. There was times I was testing it before making it priority that I’d test for 30 seconds and it never did seem to pick it up
