• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello. A friend of mine has a TK-7160H-K he wants to get programmed and just wondering what software do you use to program it, is it KPG-99D or is there another out there to use to do it. So I will know which one to use.

Let me know.

Thanks

I believe you are correct on the software, it is KPG-99D. You do need the software to program that radio, no way around it. The cable can either be purchased from a Kenwood dealer, or a good aftermarket option that has always worked for me with many commercial radios is bluemax49er.

Ok thanks. I have the software and both cables a USB one and a COM1 cable.

Just wanted to check to make sure this was the right software or if there was another one out there to use.

And I have the software on 2 computers a windows 10 and one with Windows XP

Thanks

Ok now just trying to read the radio and I am having this issue:

ERROR

Check all connections and COM port settings.

I checked that and the right COM port is selected. I am using a USB cable, which I use for other Kenwoods and no issues.

So I don’t know what the issue is.

If anyone can let me know.

Thanks

KPG-99D is the correct programming software for that radio.

The KPG-46U is the correct cable for this radio, make sure you have the correct comm port set in the software.

Yup that I do I have the right one set up and still nothing. So I dunno maybe it has to do with something where you plug the mic and programming cable into, something is not working there. I dunno. I don’t repair radios. So I don’t know much if it has something to do with that
