• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Im having trouble finding the correct programming cable for the tk-760hg. It needs the smaller cable (looks like the size of a telephone cable) and all I can seem to find is the KPG-4 for the tk-760 (the size of an ethernet cable). I also have the KPG-56D Software for DOS that I am able to run in windows XP DOS prompt, but now im not sure if that is the right software.... any help would be great, I've spent the last few hours googling and searching, and keep coming up with the same ol NOTHING!!
Thanks,
Matt

The TK-X60G radio is one of those transition models. Originally the program software (KPG-56D) was DOS based and later versions were written for windows. I have both and whichever computer is fired up I'll use, both work without a hitch.

The cable to use is a KPG-46, which has a RJ-45 8pin connector to plug into the mic jack and you get to choose from:

KPG-46 Serial cable, terminates to a DB-25 computer connector.
KPG-46AM Serial cable, terminates to a DB-9 (AT style, whoo!) computer connector.
KPG-46UM USB cable for those computers without a com port (driver CD included, only works with windows FPU)

As a bonus, the older Kenwoods used a 6 pin mic connector and the program cable for that is a KPG-4.
It is serial only, but it WILL program a 760HG if you get it to seat straight in the mic connector.

Throw those numbers into the ol ebay and I got a million options from $5 up to $50! ...all I needed was the right ones iguess. And yeah, I guess the KPG-56D software is windows based if you have the newer v.4. At first I just had one that worked on the ol MS DOS window and you had to use the 'alt' and 'F' keys to run it! Thanks for your guys' help! Now I have to head over to the TAD-M10 section if there is one.... that is one dinosaur to try and find program OR cable for!!

I'm not sure if the #60 series is line the #30's, but to program the #30 you have to turn the radio off, plug in the cable, hold down the SQL button and turn the radio on to put it in program mode.
