The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello all,

I am new to the forum but would like to ask a question. I have several Motorola TK-862 series radios at work. One of them resides in the maintenance office where I work. I would like to add an external speaker about 50 feet from the radio in the maintenance area. Is there anyone willing to tell me what I need to get to make this happen? I'm sure someone will have questions that I have not answered, but if there is someone willing to help, I will attempt to get the requested information. Thank you.

You are absolutely correct. My boss told me one thing and I did not verify. My apologies.

Those Kenwood mobiles have a 1/8" jack on the back for an external speaker. The easiest way (certainly not the best, but doesn't require much skill) (but it does disconnect the internal speaker) would be to use a 50 foot extension cable (Home) and an external speaker with a 1/8" jack (Amazon.com)

If you need audio at the radio, you can use a 1/8" mono splitter and use two of those RoadPro speakers (they are 8ohm, and the Kenwood supports a 4ohm load [two 8s in parallel])

Thank you all for helping me. Is there a way to keep the audio working in both places? I did notice that the buttons on the front of the radio don't do anything when pressed. Is that the way it's supposed to be or do I need to get them programmed as well?

As I mentioned in second paragraph, use a splitter and two speakers (one at remote location, one at radio). It's the simplest way to accomplish it.

The buttons on the front are programmed based on customer need. If there was no need for the button to do anything, then it wouldn't be programmed to work. Did you need it or expect it to do something?

The easiest way is what KK6ZTE mentioned. Two speakers, a 50' extension, and one of these splitters https://www.amazon.com/3-5mm-Mono-Y...rds=3.5mm+splitter+mono&qid=1614795330&sr=8-3.

I have opened up that style radio and applied a solder bridge that keeps the internal speaker on with an external plugged in, but that is more involved.

The buttons are programmable and if they don't do anything then nothing is assigned to them.
