I own a Kenwood TM-741A that is equipped with 2m, 70cm and an optional 1.25m (220MHz) module. All three of these cables are well marked and have SO-239 connectors. But there is also a fourth cable that has a similar cable but with a PL-259 connector on it. Does anyone know what this fourth cable might be for? Does the TM-741A allow for more than 1 optional module? I'm wondering if I have both the 220MHz module and maybe one of the other optional modules? If so, how would you switch the display between optional modules? Happy to send a pic to anyone who might need more info. 73, Tom - K5LOL

I sold one of those a year or two ago. It had VHF, UHF and 1.2GHz modules. Only 3 antenna connections.

Where is the 4th one exiting the case? Sounds like maybe a modification….

Hi, if I remember correctly, the kenwood tm741a had a mod to attach a 4th antenna for 800 Mhz receive, this was before the blocking of some 800 freq's.

A photo showing which module this 4th cable goes to would be helpful.

From one of the many mods sites, complete with misspellings:
TM-741 A/E 900 MHz band receptton with 430 MHz unit

To change to the 900-MHZ band. select the 430-MHnd, then press and hold down the [MHZ; key for at least a second. NOW 850.000 (initial setting) is displayed.

To return to the 430-MHZ band, press the [MHz] key again for at least a second.

Addling a secondary 900-MHz dedicated antenna at the 430-MHZ unit
  1. remove the power supply cable from the power supply or battery.
  2. remothe 430-MHz band unit with care.
For removal procedure see the instructionNAL - unit INSTALLATION, reversing the order of the procedure and... using the brain:
  3. Remove the shield plate (12 screws.)
  4. Solder a coaxial cable (0.8 d) to the input side of IC9 (center is aligned with the IC9, ground at right side.)
  5. Pass the cable through the notch and install the shield plate.
  6. Reassemble the main unlit.
