Earlier today I adjusted some wiring and after finishing, I noticed the control head no longer powered on. But instead, it blinked green on and off, cycling every half second or so. It was otherwise blank - just the backlight turning on and off. It sounded like the control head was clicking too.

Obviously something is wrong and I’m sure the control head was damaged somehow. I’m wondering if anyone has run into this before, and can I find a replacement control head? I can’t find one for sale anywhere, including the RC-D710 which I’m not even sure would work anyway.

Any ideas? I’m considering upgrading to a newer radio anyway because I’ve had my 710 for like 10 years, but would like to salvage it if possible.

Thanks!

Have you checked the cable between the RF deck and the control head? Are the connectors in good shape and making firm contact at each end? Any strain on the cable at either end which might be pulling the connector out of alignment? You might also consider replacing the cable.

Thanks for the reply. I used another known-working cable, plugged firmly and directly into the RF deck, and the same thing happens. :(

I’m considering buying a Yaesu FTM-400XDR but I’d really love to save that money instead.

You should be able to get the TM-D710 display head repaired if there is something wrong with it.

I have both a TM-D710A and an FTM-400DR. The Yaesu just has too many issues that are not overcome by the color display. I think you would find it to be a more difficult radio to use.
