I can not find this answer in the software help section or on-line. How do I program the Kenwood TM-D710 for receive only? (Weather frequency)

I have the TM-D710GA so I'm not sure if you have this model or a previous version.
I have one of the panel PF-keys (just below display, to the right) programmed as a 1-touch Weather Channel.
Go into the Menu (press F, then push in the rotary dial), rotate dial to select the AUX group (push in dial), then rotate dial again to menu # 906 or 907 (Panel PF-1 or PF-2). Push the rotary dial in to edit the PF-key, then rotate the dial to select Wx. Ch. Press the key under the display labeled ESC and it's all set.
Whenever you push the PF key that you set for the Weather Channel, you'll get channel-1 by default. Rotate the rotary dial to select the station that you want. When you're done listening tot he channel, press the MR key to the left of the display.

If your TM-D710 has not been modified for out-of-band transmission (commonly called the MARS/CAP Mod) you don't need to do any special programming, just enter the NOAA frequency since the radio is designed to only transmit on the standard ham frequencies. It will allow you to receive on the wider frequency bands like the NOAA Weather Radio frequencies without being able to transmit on them.

Now if you have a modified radio, you will need to make sure that you don't transmit on the NOAA frequency. One option to help insure this is to program the channel as a "Split" channel (individually programmed transmit and receive frequencies with the receive frequency being the NOAA channel and the transmit frequency being a standard Ham frequency that isn't typically in use at your location). This "Split" option is in the Kenwood software (and probably others) where you program the memory channel and put the software in "Channel Edit" mode. There you can customize the programming and the "Split Channel" check box which will allow you to specify the transmit frequency (note, this info is from the TM-D710GA Kenwood software and the earlier model screens may be somewhat different)Kenwood TM-D710GA Channel Edit Screenshot.jpg.

Thank you N5IMS. I didn't realize that it wouldn't transmit out of band. It does not have the MARS modification. I still like the Motorola box you check for RECEIVE ONLY.
