I recently acquired a Kenwood TH-74D and I am following the instruction manual to access the HF band. I can move through the A band okay. How do I get it to move through the B band where the frequency I am looking for is located. I want to set this up for packet operations.
Appreciate everyones help in resolving this issue,
Walter

The manual could be more clear on this, but the basic issue is that "Band A" can only be used for the 144, 222, or 440 MHz bands. If you want to receive HF while doing packet on VHF or UHF, you'll have to set the radio to do data on Band A and then use Band B for HF. And, remember, the radio can't transmit on HF, only receive.

Just in case you're asking how to switch from A to B.. Press the button on the very top right of the keyboard that says A/B, That will toggle the band back and forth.

Also, pressing the F key and then the A/B button will toggle between showing both bands at the same time and only showing one.

Are you saying that your radio only shows one band? Or, are you saying that you don't know how to change from one band to another?

This is what the manual says about selecting dual band mode vs. single band mode:

Kenwoods have always had this confusion where they refer to the different "sides" of the radio as "bands". "Bands" are different segments of the radio spectrum. "Sides" are different display and operating parts of the radio. So, in the above excerpt from the manual, substitute "side" for "band". As the above image shows, you can use the [A/B] key to select different "sides". Or, you can do an [F], [A/B] to turn off one "side" of the radio or turn it back on.

As I said in my first comment, the A "side" only cycles between the 144-222-440 bands and back to 144. The A "side" is not capable of selecting the HF band. The radio can only select the HF band on the B "side" of the radio.

If things aren't working for you, maybe doing a full reset will be necessary to get the radio back to the default condition. You do a full reset by going into the menus and selecting Configuration | System | Reset (menu 999). Full Reset will take you back to square one including erasing your memories
