I commute to Kern County weekly and woould like to listen to Kern SO. I have 453.0500 for Kern Metro Dispatch/Metro Bakersfield but all I hear is occasional digital noise. On Kern East I hear just fine on 460.2250. Metro is a busy channel and I wonder where they actually are. Bakersfield is like Los Angeles in the middle of the desert :)

Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much for the answer Brian. The reason I ask is because the database here still shows 453.050. Although it's a relatively small County I wonder if the database admin might want to put a note on there that dispatch is currently on admin. Just a thought. I sure appreciate you taking the time to answer.

They are using Admin for Metro Dispatch. Have been for awhile. Not sure if this permanent.

With the way the county is talking budget cuts, I think we might see all the dispatch go back to one channel again.

You don't need one channel for one dispatcher because one dispatcher can patch them all together. They stay separated unless you have Code 33 traffic or a pursuit. At that time a dispatch supervisor will take over one channel and the other dispatcher will either handle the Code 33 or the routine. The issue is the location of the repeaters. Kern East cannot be accessed from Kern West in most cases and not from an HT. So... the radio frequencies remain the same but the RTO patches to maintain control (units standing by for other traffic.) Even our multi-site amateur radio repeater system is patched routinely but if a special event or emergency is local to one particular repeater it is temporarily removes from the links. Folks in Big Bear don't need to hear a special event in San Fernando Valley.
