Anyone live near Kirtland, Ohio?

I'm puzzled.....

Can anyone tell me what talkgroup Kirtland uses as it's primary dispatch group? I have them all in my PSR-500, as well as the 151.205 freqency that they seem to refer to as "high band." I hear some "1A" traffic on one talkgroup, but nothing on the other (4464 & 4496)

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

Greg

Ok, well for Kitland PD they share a TG with Mentor on the Lake PD, and Lakeland Community College PD. The TGID # is 336, I'm assuming that you have the freqs. The 4464 & 4496 TGs are Kirtland PD Channels 1A and 1B which are used for mostly longer non-emergency conversations so that they don't block up the main dispatch channel. Hope this helps!!

Whatever talk group that Mentor on the lake and Lakeland college uses is there main talk group. I dont hear them often on it. I also heard there fire dept testing some repeaters last summer. On the the 800 talk groups i would hear them repeat about repeater 1 then how about repeater 2.

Thanks, John....

It's interesting that several talkgroups assigned to some cities aren't used (Timberlake, which uses LCSheriff, Kirtland) and that those cities share a talkgroup with other cities....

Kirtland shares Willoughby Hills' Fire talkgroup....but the police use Lakeland college and MOL....interesting.

Is it a money-saving reason that this is done? (Fewer dispatchers, etc?)

Thanks again for the info!

Kirtland,W Hills (dispatchs for Waite Hills pd also),MOL,Lakeland all have there own dispatchers. If Kirtland is going to a fire dept call at Lakeland college they will goto Kirtlands 1C. Interesting is the dispatching for Kirtland Hills. PD is dispatched by Central. They use Kirtland FD for fire coverage so sometimes you will hear Central calling Kirtland to dispatch fire.

Yeah, Lake County can be a little confusing...

Kirtland PD mostly uses the shared talkgroup with M.O.L. and Lakeland on I.D.# 336. But you'll definitely want to listen to 151.205 as well, since there is a lot traffic on there that you won't hear on the Lake County System. Also, Kirtland Fire and EMS share I.D.# 2416 with Willoughby Hills Fire.

And as for the Lake County System, only 3 cities have their own talkgroups for police dispatch...Mentor, Eastlake, and Willoughby. My guess would be due to population, since these are the only 3 cities with over 20,000 people.

Now every other department has their own private talkgroups (1A, 1B, etc.), but they have to share dispatch channels:

Willowick and Wickliffe share...Willoughby Hills and Waite Hill PD's share...Painesville, Fairport Harbor, and Grand River PD's share...Madison (Village and Township) PD's, Kirtland Hills PD, and the Metroparks Rangers share (dispatched by "Central")...and last but not least, the Sheriff shares a channel with the Timberlake and Perry PD's (also dispatched by "Central")...

Now personally, I think Eastlake should also be dispatching for Timberlake, for officer safety and mutual aid purposes...But for whatever reason (probably the fact that Timberlake owes Eastlake money), that's not happening. However, you will hear a Timberlake officer on Eastlake's dispatch from time to time, asking them for backup. Also, Wickliffe and Willowick PD's help each other out a lot, so sharing a channel seems to work out very well for them (same can be said for the P'ville/Fairport/G.R. setup).

The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is having Mentor on the Lake share with Kirtland and Lakeland College...I don't get it. I know M.O.L isn't exactly a huge city, but the Police Department is usually pretty busy. And since they don't border Kirtland or Lakeland, I don't see why they can't have their own talkgroup for dispatch (I'm sure there's a reason, but I just don't see it).

Anyways, the Fire Department dispatch setups are a little different (M.O.L. and Painesville City also have their own dispatch channels along with Eastlake, Mentor, and Willoughby)...But you get the idea; everyone else has to share.

T-thanks! I'm going to print your reply.....this answers a lot of questions regarding my home system.

I grew up in Eastlake, and yes, I wondered the same thing--why not Timberlake and Eastlake on one talkgroups, rather than Timberlake sharing with Lake Co. Sheriff--a pretty busy talkgroup by itself!

I listen to Willoughby Hills all the time (my home town,) and wasn't aware that they shared with Waite Hill, but talk about a "sleepy town!"

It seems that when it comes to scanning, there is always more to learn........

You're welcome...and I too was raised in good ol' "Greaselake".

I've lived in several cities over the last 9 years (Willowick, Geneva, and Euclid twice), but Eastlake is definitely still my favorite city to listen to.

Yes, Eastlake has some real characters living there.

When I was a kid listening to my Dad's scanner, he used to call Eastlake "the home of the barking dog complaint."

Still pretty true!

I am sure this is a dumb question, but what/where is "Timberlake"? Never heard of that...and I lived/worked in Lake County for many years! Help?
