I came across one of these at a local farmer's market and was wondering if anyone knew the history of it. I did a Google search but couldn't find much info. Anyone have/use one of these, come across a manual, etc? It seems pretty cool.

It was built and marketed as a navigation device for boats.

As I recall, it topped out at 3MHz and was a very good AM broadcast receiver.

Yep, they were designed as a simple marine DF system back in the days before GPS. You tuned the antenna ring for a null to determine a bearing to a land station. Take more than one bearing and you could plot a general fix at the intersection of the lines.
