• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Does anyone know where you can purchase the “KWD-D5-L1K” license for KPG-D5 to allow you to program custom frequencies on the Kenwood NX-P500? Apparently Kenwood won’t sell the L version of the license anymore but only the B version which is baffling to me that end users can buy a license for the NX-1000 series which is still in production but they are unwilling to sell a programming license to an end user for an end of life radio NX-P500.

Use of the L1K version requires some additional changes to the radio. Kenwood sold that feature under option L-1867 "Convert from BRS mode to LMR mode to be programmed by KPG-D5-L1K".
So, just the software alone won't get you what you need. I believe the L-1867 was a firmware change.

Finding the L-1867 and the software would only be ~leagally~ done from Kenwood. The software requires the KPT-300LMC license management software and it would register the software with Kenwood, like all the newer version of KPG, so finding it out in the wild won't do you much good.

There are some Kenwood guys on this site that may be able to help a bit more.

Well I already have a bunch of NX-P500 radios already converted that I just need to edit the config on. Perhaps an old dealer will want to sell their license since it’s EOL.
