I often hear "LA, Area 23 requesting LAFD Paramedics for a injury at blah, blah, blah beach..." (obviously the blah, blah, blah is so I can get to the question) on LACoFD Blue 3.

Does anybody have a listing of where the "Area xx" units are assigned. It appears they are the LACoFD beach lifeguards, but I have never seen a listing of their radio call signs/assignments, so I figured I would ask the experts.

If anyone has a list, or knows where to find it, could you post a link?

Thanks!!!

Usually you just hear them call in by their base. Baywatch (lifeguards and yes that is the term they use and yes that's where the show came up with the name) units frequently call in "Baywatch Del Rey, Baywatch Avalon, Baywatch Ishtmus, Baywatch Malibu, Baywatch Zuma, as well as a couple others I couldn't remember off the top of my head. I think the areas when called in are the towers (but I could be mistaken). I have some friends over there and will try to find out.

Thanks. I look forward to the additional info you may obtain. I suspected as much as it relates to likely being the lifeguard station numbers I am hearing when I hear "Area 23...." etc..

I have heard Lifeguard units on the LACoFD channels often (using the various Baywatch callsigns), but anyone have a clue what they use amongst themselves lifeguard tower to tower down on the beach?
They seem to have low-band handhelds with longish antenas. I've even seen a few carried around packed in plastic waterproof bags.

I believe that "Baywatch" refers to the lifeguard rescue boat division, not beach and tower lifeguards. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
