Anyone know what frequency the LAFD Air Squads are dispatched off of? I hear the occasionally on the tac channels but never hear them dispatched off the main channels like EMS/FD N or EMS S, etc.

LAFD Air Ambulance

LA City FD Air Ambulance dispatches are on either LAFD OCD 8 or LAFD OCD 7. OCD 8 is used for San Fernando Valley Responses, and OCD 7 is used for Metro LA areas (south of Mulholland Drive).

LA County Fire dispatches are done on LACoFD Blue 8, along with the rest of the county's dispatches. Most of the calls are either in the Antelope or San Gabriel Valley areas. For those, you can listen to the command channel on Blue 12 (Santa Clarita and AV) or Blue 6 (San Gabriel Valley). The helicopters also are almost always on Tac 19 (154.400) when in the air. For Blue 8 dispatches, they are always toned out using the two-tone system. So, if you are passively listening to Blue 8, you should perk your ears up when you hear the tones. The Chiefs and some other specialized units also have tones, so you will also hear those.

The county guys seem to talk on FM quite a bit more than City. Most of the calls to base for city seem to be on their AM air base freq.

You can hear LAFD Air Ops on 857.2375-OCD-9 for brush fires, and air-to-air is on 119.975, but I don't think they have their own dispatch channel like the county does.

If all LAFD units being dispatched to an incident will be responding from quarters, they're generally dispatched by wireline and data feed and not over the air. After that the dispatchers will typically broadcast a brief summary of the dispatch over the appropriate radio frequency. That's why you'll sometimes see units rolling Code 3 before you've even heard them dispatched.

Air Ambulance calls seem to usually be handled on the EMS Control frequency for the location, Channel 4 if south of Mulholland, Channel 8 north of Mulholland. Tac frequencies 12 or 13 are the most commonly used in the metro area, and Tac 17 or 18 in the valley, but that can vary.
