* Update * Shooting incident leads to manhunt in Lamar

The LPD issued the following press release shortly before 10 a.m. this morning, Jan. 9, 2014.

On January 8, 2014 at approximately 8:15 p.m. an officer from the Lamar Police Department contacted a vehicle in the 1400 block of South Main Street. The officer attempted to arrest the driver.

The driver resisted and assaulted the officer. Shots were fired by the officer during the encounter. No one was injured due to gun fire. The suspect fled the scene and eluded capture.

The officer was transported to Prowers Medical Center where he was released after receiving treatment for his injuries.

The name of the officer involved and the name of the suspect are not being released at this time. Further details will be released after the investigation has concluded.

Suspect named

An arrest warrant was issued Thu. evening for Justin Orozco in connection to the incident that occured (sic) Wed. night Jan. 8, 2014 at the Tank & Tummy store in Lamar Colo.

Orozco is wanted on charges of second degree assault, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.
