How do you use the lcn finder? I have a trx-1 and hear traffic coming over it. The 436hp doesn’t show any lcn found when they are talking. Do you just program in the control channel or use all the channels in the lcn finder?

You'll need to program all frequencies listed from the FCC of RR.

Then run LCN finder to gather the corresponding LCN numbers the admin used setting the system up.

That’s what I have done but it’s not collecting any information about it and there is for sure traffic on it.

I have discovered that LCN Finder should be renamed "Channel Number" when programming NXDN. You can't put in LCN 1...2...3...etc. ,but you have to program in the Channel Number that has been assigned to it. This information will probably be found in the database section of Radio Reference.

There are only two TGs listed. Are you sure it's very active?

You have to program all the active frequencies for LCN finder to find them.

You will not hear audio when it is finding them.

You should see a status of how many it's found.

It make take several transmissions on each frequency to find them.

No. It’s not very active but I have a trx-1 setting beside me and the pd has came on and talked several times and the lcn finder displayed nothing except the full bars of service from the control channel.

Third and fifth points above:

You will not hear audio when it is finding them.

It make take several transmissions on each frequency to find them.

The ideal system will have frequent transmissions, but rarely more than one LCN active at the same time. Too many, it will not be able to determine the correct one. Too few, it will take longer.

If you have an SDR and DSD+, you can use that as a tool to find them, too.

You can make it scan like a Whistler - just program everything as conventional.

But yes, LCN Finder can take a while. But you should only have to run it once unless a new frequency is added. Even then it would be quicker.

Something that I think may 'throw off' LCN finder is if you have frequencies programmed that are not actually in use. So, make sure there is activity on all of them.

If they only have two TGs, you don't need 5 active frequencies. Maybe they only have two frequencies active (or maybe three if it's a distributed system [has a control channel])

I got it working. Don’t know what I did wrong the first time but I deleted the system I had just set up. Then started over from scratch. I didn’t name anything, just the generic names that pop up when setting a system up. I put in all 5 frequencies and fire got a page out. It found the lcn very quickly. Thanks for the help. My guess is there is other talkgroups to this system, they just haven’t been submitted.
