LearJet Crashes into 3 homes-St Joe County, South Bend

WNDU reporting a plane crashed into 3 homes and its sitting on top of a house south east of the South Bend Regional Airport. multiple medics, fire, rescue and tac crews on scene. can listen to fire and rescue on Saint Joseph County and South Bend City Fire

police operations are on Mishawaka and South Bend Police

About 45min ago a private lear jet has crashed into at least 3 homes on the Northwest side of South Bend Indiana near the South Bend Regional Airport. So far theirs 3 reports of injured. The local trauma center in on a trauma yellow standby. Multiple Indiana police agencies and fire agencies on scene, including Indiana state police, Indiana conservation officers, South Bend Airport police and city/county police. An operations center has been set up in he area. Theirs also reports of multiple gas leaks from homes. So far no word if the plane tried making an emergency landing. Airport operations and flights continue due to the accident being off airport grounds. I will continue to update when I get more information.

Update: Aircraft was a Beachcraft Premier 1 tail # n26dk out of Roy Jones Airport in Tulsa, OK. Their were reports of electrical problems.

A manditory evacuation is underway untill tomorrow morning for residence in the area. The aircraft is lodged into a home and is leaking jet fuel. Tactical rescue teams are attempting to comb throuh debre.

Their is a confirmed fatality, the body of the pilot has been found.

Thanks for the contribution MtnBiker2005. UPDATE: an injured person is in serious condition and is undergoing emergency surgery at this time. Some eye witnesses say the aircraft circled the airport before stalling and crashing. The aircraft ended upside down into a home.

Cononer's office is on the scene. They have found the pilot deceased in a home on the Northwest side of South Bend near the crash scene. Posted at 7:15PM Sunday 3-17-13

The aircraft is in the home of 1614 N Iowa St. South Bend, IN. Less then a mile from the airport.

Fire and FAA officials now working to shut the aircrafts transponder off.

Saint Joesph County Coroner confirms theirs more fatalities other then the pilot. The exact number is unknown.

FAA confirms 4 on board jet 2 were killed.

Fire and FAA officials are leaving the aircraft in the home it crashed into until the jet fuel can be taken out and cleaned up. Until then South Bend Airport ARFF and Crash units along with South Bend city and Saint Joesph County fire will stay on scene with the FAA and NTSB.

FAA confirms (once again) 2 ppl killed on board, 2 injured on board, 1 injured on the ground. All those injured expected to survive according to near by Memorial Hospital. NTSB Chicago District has arrived on scene 30mins ago.

Saint Joesph County Coroner released the names of those killed in the accident. 58 year old Wesley Caves and 60 year old Steven Davis.
