Hi,
Can anyone confirm the Keplers for LES-5 - here's what I have at the moment..

LES-5
1 2866U 67066E 22127.50011885 -.00000058 00000-0 00000+0 0 9992
2 2866 1.3852 246.2609 0052623 38.4265 314.4962 1.09425229114591

I received him well last year using a cut-down TV antenna. According to these Keplers he should be to the north of me from David Taylor's WxTrack programme but not a peep on the old frequency that I have -247.750MHz +/- a few cycles but he could have gone quiet again. Interesting story if you just Google for LES-5.
TIA.

Wow, I had never heard of this one.

I used to monitor ATS-1, ATS-3 or ATS-6 VHF freqs back in the late 80's. Used to hear round table net operations and discussions of the Bahaii working various Pacific islands and a US base. I actually have recordings. My shack was rather minimalistic at the time, yet signals were strong.

Edit: (From Communication Satellites Fifth Edition. Donald H. Martin, Paul R. Anderson, Lucy Bartamian)

"Since April 1971, the VHF repeater of ATS 1 was used regularly about 20 hr a week as a single channel international communication system called Project PEACESAT (Pan Pacific Education and Communication Experiments by Satellite). PEACESAT provided cultural and emergency communications to about 20 nations (mostly small island nations) of the Pacific basin. ATS 3 also provided communication services in the Pacific basin. Both ATS 1 and ATS 3 degraded in performance, but both continued in use for more than six times their 3-year design lives. In 1985, ATS 1 failed to respond to commands; therefore, it could no longer be kept at the correct location to serve all the Pacific basin users, even though its electronics remained usable. ATS 3 was still functioning properly into 1986."

He's gone too far east now, I'll have to wait another 10 days for him to come around again.....
