I see some pretty good prices for the Uniden BCD436HP, would this be decent for Lexington NC area (lex, davidson City, state pd, or also when I'm in guilford co/ High point)?

I read the notice on encryption ranting........are any of these areas encrypted (just asking, if that's ok)
Thanks for any input.........i'd hate to waste a couple if hundred bucks!

I don't think you will go wrong with it at that price! At the very least you could get your money back if it didn't suit you.
With VIPER system and now fleet talk you should be ok.
Are the radios you are seeing upgraded? That would be a big plus and dang near necessary.

Davidson county is now a simulcast cell of Viper. Guilford is also a simulcast system. I would not recommend a 436HP for either of these areas, stick with a Unication pager or SDS100 or SDS200.

As for encryption, there are a handful of encrypted talkgroups in Davidson and Guilford. High Point PD, Archdale PD, and Thomasville PD are fully encrypted.

No offense, But isn't the SDS100 and 200 the same as the 436 536 with just a few more bells and whistles?
I mean the BCDs would still work great for his area, these radios are still very useful and it's a great time to grab one what with everyone selling to get the next best thing.

The SDS100/200 are specifically designed to handle simulcast systems whereas the 436/536 are not, so no.

Ok last post on here from me, I'm not here to argue! The question is will the 436 work ok in the area he mentioned, yes it will, is it as good as the SDS100? I can't answer that but that wasn't the question.
So buy it, try it, if you don't think it's doing what you want then resale, people are still buying these things.
The only thing I would caution is to check carefully who you're buying from and also make certain it's from a smoke free environment.
Thanks
Have a great day!

Perhaps you should do some research on CQPSK modulation and scanners before you spread misinformation like this.

Does the 436 support P25 trunking and will it technically work? Yes. Will it work well? No, probably not, because until the SDS100/200 came out they were not designed to work on simulcast systems. Keep in mind that Davidson only recently became a simulcast cell of Viper and most of the system uses C4FM modulation, which is no problem for the 436/5e6. I have a 536 mounted in my truck and it is useless on the Guilford system. Before the system went P25 a couple years ago, it worked fantastic. Now it's half garble. This is why the 436/536 are not a good choice. At a minimum, I would look hard at a Unication G4.

Please accept my humble apology, I had no intention of misinforming anyone, I was only giving my opinion based on my limited knowledge and experience with my 436 and 536.

I own a 436 and live in Mocksville, and I pick up Davidson County Public Safety simulcast all day long on Viper. I have owned a 396 previously I had to let go and as I recall I did with it also.

I have a Davidson County favorites list file that will work on the 436 or SDS100. Another member in Lexington on the NC forum says it works great on his SDS200. I will be happy to share it with you.
