Seems interesting that every New Year's Eve after midnight the Fire Dept gets dispatched for fires that turn out to be just a window reflection of the flame at the top of the Calgary Tower (I wonder how this can happen...is it a result of poor eyesight, drinking..etc? lol) anyhow it may be abit late for me to ask this now, but what do you think? Will it happen again tonight?

The fire calltakers try to convince the people that no, the Petro Canada Tower isn't burning, it's the flame from the Calgary Tower. Of course, there's no convincing most of these folks.

I hear that CPS went on a whole whack of 1040R (possible gunshots happening right now) calls just after midnight. Gee, ya don't think they might have been fireworks?!? Bet it looked neat from HAWC1 though.

Yeah, no doubt, in my neighborhood alone including my street, and also looking across into Midnapore, I saw alot more people launching them this time than last year, looked aslo like their getting abit more adventurous in what they launch too lol some were HUGE! What was also abit funny was that my dog was deep asleep, but then as soon as the sounds of the fireworks started he got abit alarmed and kept running back and forth through the house looking out of windows trying to figure out what was going on, but he got over it soon after.

And I've also got more to add to this story: It wasn't quite the best thing for me to have been woken up then -as fun as watching the fireworks was lol- as we had pre-planned to head out to Salmon Arm BC for 6am or so that morning, being this morning, to go see the puppies that had been born to a female my dog was bred with as this was our last chance to see them before they get sold. So we left at around 6:30am, got there at around 4pm our time, did our visiting looked at the puppies, they also served us a surprise meal, and then we left again at around 6pm our time to come home here in Calgary at 11:30pm(crazy or what lol).

So anyway, I had filled my BC785D the day before with EMS RCMP HWYS and such using what I found here in the RR database and Scan BC database. Then today I took it along on this trip, and it all turned out to be a great help as we were always forewarned about dramatically changing weather and road conditions between the border of BC and Golden as well as in other areas along the way. It was crazy, snowing one moment, then in Sicamous it was raining, it was nice in Salmon Arm but very very humid, then on the way back it was raining, then it was kind of slete near Golden, Snow just before Lake Louise and then nice with nothing but fine weather all the way from Banff to Calgary because of that great chinook we had.

On the way out though this morning I had my Rural banks tuned and apparently there was what sounded to be a fatal crash near Morley Rd and Hwy 1A but I coundn't figure out the whole thing because it seemed like there were 2 possibly 3 situations going on near the Cheif Chiniki village there all at the same time, because I had heard earlier that there was a complaint about people walking on the hwy, and then later we passed an RCMP car facing some remains that at the short glimpse I got were assumably those of a mangled deer (hopefully they were not human as they were mashed to shreds!).

I'm thinking this may have been what drew the person seen walking along the hwy to be there, but it also seemed that there was another separate crash nearby (which was not visible from the hwy) that they were investigating that involved a human fatality, so I don't know if what I saw actually had to do with the other accident I was hearing more about later or if a deer and a human were killed in separate incidents or if a person walking on the hwy got killed. I guess it will all unfold in the next newspaper...

Anyhow, thats it for that chapter lol

TTYL and Happy New Year!

I heard on the news that a body was "found" near the highway in Morley.

Around 1300 or 1400 (I forget) we were called out to an MVA at Hwy 1 x Morley Rd - an RCMP member was reportedly struck by a car. EMS transported before we (Redwood Meadows) arrived, reportedly he's got minor injuries. I can guarantee he wasn't whatever you saw on the road. :)

Of note is that the above location is actually 69 Station (Exshaw)'s area, but they were busy on a house fire of some sort, so we and 71 (Springbank) were sent in their place.

I see, but the time frame I heard all this at was in between around 0730 and 0800 Sunday morning and I heard the dispatch through the Big Horn repeater but never heard what they came across upon arrival of their scene.

By the sounds of it, it must have also been a bit of busier day for 71 because upon my return at around 10 or 11pm they were dispatched again for an alarm that turned out to have been caused by a puff of smoke that had left a fireplace.

Its looking like what we saw there in front of the RCMP car in the right lane of hwy 1 nearby the Chief Chiniki village driving by was the body of the pedestrian they mention that got struck down :0 and cfcn says it was hit multiple times which would explain why it looked totally unrecognizable and the way it did described in my earlier reply when we passed by.

This sort of thing happens in Edmonton all the time. We have five major refinery operations on our eastern and northeastern flank, and it's amazing how many calls go out that start something like this:

Caller is actually downtown, but is looking through binoculars, and can see a fire he thinks is in a house around 34th street on the east side....

Once I heard a call from the far west side of the city (West Edmonotn Village) about a fire they could see with binoculars in the far south of the city (Webber Centre Tower), that actually turned out to be a reflection of the refinery flares from the far east of the city... gah!

You know, Matt. If they were only to buy a telescope, they could call in reports for another city. They could also watch aircraft as they fly overhead and try to catch the reflection on the underside. Using basic trig, they could then calculate where the flash came from and report accordingly.

Kind of reminds me of someone that called me one time. They wanted to let me know that a utility pole went down at an intersection not far from me. He actually asked me if he should call it in. I asked him if there were any injuries. He then told me that rescue was on scene and they were diverting traffic. I was tempted to tell him that he should call the local police department to report what was going on, but I figued that he may not understand that I was being sarcastic and actually call 911 to report an accident that the police and fire crews were currently working.

Some people's kids...
